You just can't say anything bad about John Philip Sousa

I love playing his marches. They are so much fun. Of course, I play clarinet and we get so many runs, arpeggios and trills. So cool. The highlight of my summer is getting to play with a major summer band at the Fourth of July concert which is immediately followed by fireworks. It is glorious, awe-inspiring and soul-stirring.

We usually decorate our music stands with flags, stars and whatever. Tomorrow, my husband and I will be decorating our stands with blue star service flags in honor of our son.

I have a CD of his greatest hits. Nice to listen to on patriotic holidays like today.

Drove up to a friends house and his daughter was outside. The Stars and Strips Forever was playing and I asked her if she knew what the song was.

After turning her head a few times she replied with "Circus Music?" :-(

Wowzo. Thanks! There's a great recollection about "The Northern Pines" at that site.
