Broken romance may be fueling rep’s rough Patches (Kennedy)
Boston Herald ^ | 05/09/06 | Gayle Fee and Laura Raposa

Patrick Kennedy is carrying a torch for a now-married ex-galpal and his broken heart may be the reason he’s gone off the rails, friends say.

“He’s lonely,” said one of Patches’ Rhode Island pals. “He’s a mess, and it’s really sad. It really is.”

Word is that Patches pines for his ex, Tatiana Platt, an America Online exec he dated for more than a year until she left him for her now-hubby, renowned architect Campion Platt.

We hear that Tatiana has been defending her former paramour, saying the Rhode Island congressman has gotten a “bad rap” after a suspicious car accident last week. Kennedy plowed his Ford Mustang into a Capitol Hill security barrier at 2:45 a.m. Thursday. He subsequently checked himself into the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota for rehab.

Kennedy said he is battling an addiction to prescription drugs. But a waitress at a Capitol Hill bar said he was drinking before the accident.

Capitol Police officers, who suspected that Kennedy, 38, was drunk, claim he was given special treatment. A superior told them to skip the field sobriety test and Kennedy was then driven home. Patches claims he has no memory of the incident, blaming a combination of the sleeping pill Ambien and the gastrointestinal drug Phenergan.

“He’s all screwed up,” said the Rhode Island pal. “He really needs to get away from everything for about six months and deal with this.”

Word is, Patrick’s family was extremely fond of Tatiana and hoped that he would marry her. A brainy ex-CIA spook who speaks six languages, Tatiana was thought by the Kennedys to bea good influence on Patrick.

The romance began in the spring of 2003 when Tatiana turned up on Patrick’s arm at the opening of the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis exhibit at the Corcoran Gallery of Art.

He then brought her to a fund-raiser at cousin Anthony Shriver’s Miami digs to meet the rels and they hit it off so famously that Tatiana chaired a Best Buddies benefit at Eunice Kennedy Shriver’s house in Maryland.

But she reportedly fell for her husband, a dashing ex-male model, while she was dating Kennedy - a blow the congressman apparently never recovered from.

Friends say Kennedy’s mother’s battle with alcoholism is also taking a toll and that he is “genuinely concerned” for her well-being. He also reportedly is not close to his brother, Ted Jr., or sister Kara although the three took temporary guardianship of Joan Kennedy after she was found sprawled on a Boston sidewalk in the rain, and was hospitalized with a concussion and a broken shoulder.

“He’s really not a bad guy,” said our spy. “In fact, he’s a really sweet guy. He just feels like he’s all alone. It’s too bad.”

tune: "Patches" (Clarence Carter)

My father was a drunk old man
I could see him with a bottle in his hand
He drowned a woman in a pond
Didn't think he did anything wrong
Didn't serve any time in jail
Got re-elected without fail

Oh, life's not easy for a Kennedy
The booze and the broads and the pills, you see
One night Daddy showed up when I was in bed
Poured himself a Chivas and in tears he said...

He said, Patches I'm depending on you son
To pull the family through
My son it's all left to you...

This was an embarrassingly BAD piece of Junk Journalism. Amazing how the spin is always Pro Democrat from the loser Media. HE IS AN ADULT MALE RESPONSIBLE FOR HIS ACTIONS AT ALL TIMES, not a victim. This is not a Junior High School kid suffering teen angst cause his girl friend dumped him. He is suppose to be a LEADER of our nation for crying out loud.

It over. Sorry Mr Franklin, we seem to have lost the Republic you all gave us.

yeah--Boston Herald gossip column; still, this could be the excuse we'll be hearing from him/his handlers as to why he's been acting this way. Who knows.

So who is the "mystery woman" that tried to get him not to get out of bed, get in his car and drive to the capitol to vote at 2:30AM?

I hope the poor lad gets all the psychiatric help that he needs, but first he should be expelled from the House. If he is incapable of making sound and rational decisions for himself, how in the Hell can he make them for us?

For the record, the R.I. Democratic Party was set to re-nominate him last night.

Providence Journal:
>>WEST WARWICK -- Just three days after announcing that he was once again seeking treatment for addiction to prescription drugs, U.S. Rep. Patrick J. Kennedy easily won his party's backing last night.

In a convention that was more show than suspense, the state Democratic Party gave its endorsement to Kennedy and a slate of candidates for other spots.

Even though Kennedy wasn't at the West Valley Inn last night -- he is seeking rehabilitation treatment at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., after crashing his Mustang convertible into a traffic barrier in Washington last week -- he still played a prominent role in the night's activities.

Whitehouse, for instance, was wearing only one political sticker: "Kennedy U.S. Congress."

"There's only one guy not here," he said, when asked about the sticker. "I just want to show my support and make sure there's no doubt that I'm 100-percent in his corner as he works his way through this."

What kind of woman would allow herself to be a passenger in any vehicle -- car, boat, airplane -- that was driven or piloted by a male Kennedy?

That doesn't surprise me at all. He's a Kennedy. He's a Democrat. They are all dysfunctional and that's normal for them.

Hmmm...if they were extremely fond of her, they wouldn't have wanted him to marry her.

The Kennedy menfolk probably were fond of her. She just shouldn't ever be alone with them in a car or elsewhere.

Another fine article from the MSM enlightening the "great unwashed" to the fact that it is really just raining when the Kennedys are pissing on our legs.

The implicit tone of the MSM of all things Kennedy is "Well, he lost two relatives to assassins you know, so any behavioral problems MUST be understood and dismissed. Poor things!"

Reminds one of John F'n's constant reminder that he served in Vietnam.
