I've been looking to step up to a .45 for a couple of months. Today I looked at a Kimber Eclipse Target II and think I fell in love. For this of you .45 type, is it really worth the extra $$ to step up this high. It was truely the nicest .45 I've ever felt and I'll probably keep it for good (I've never resold a single weapon). I've also shot the Glock 21, Springfield milspec 1911A, several Colt 1911As, but the Kimber was really sweet. So any of you long time owners or those with real .45 expertise, please feel free to chime in and tell me what you think.
This would be a target weapon only. I carry an SP-101 in .357 and shoot several other autos: Ruger Target III Hunter, Baretta 92FS, and Sig 229 in .40 cal.
I've never seen anyone with a Kimber at the range that I frequent, nor do I know anyone that has one.

Next on the list is a deep concealment piece -- most likely the 6 oz. Kel-Tec P-3AT .380 ACP.
I love my Kimber. If you want it, get it. You won't be disapointed.
I am not a .45 owner but I am going to butt into your thread anyway. I carry a Colt .38. The 45's are just too big for me. I carry the 38 and I am a dead shot. Maybe I'm right, maybe I'm wrong, but in the big scheme of things, I am going to carry for years and never have to use. Why would I carry around an anvil?
*Ping* Professor Squantos.
Kimbers seem like very premium hardware to me, but I have heard some criticism just lately, something about the frame, perhaps....so not owning one, I defer to the curator of our gun room.
If he ain't already tried to blow it up from the inside, or accelerate wear by heavy use, it must be a prototype. If he doesn't already own 3 of them, it's probably not worth owning. If it's a .45, you've come to the right place. When The Professor takes the stage, professionally....no matter what he is issued, his sightless M1911 stays close to his heart, ready to protect the Boss.
I am not a fan of the Ruger trigger action. (At least in the P89 model.) I have heard only good things about Kimbers, but I have never shot one. A friend of mine was on the national pistol team in the army and he shoots a cz 357. I am a fan of the Browning or Taurus 40 cal and of course the Colt 1911. Both have clean action and seem to balance well for me. The old Belgian Brownings are my favorite.
Personally, I would love to have a phased plasma rifle in a 40 watt range. Anyone know where I can pick one up?
"You'll shoot your eye out!"
Have you tried a SIG p220?
Don't know if you really want a SA or not but SIG's just fit me like an extension of my body.
I shot a Kimber at the range a few weeks ago, a fellow let me let loose with a magazine. His particular gun had a magazine feeding problem, I noticed as I watch him that afternoon, but I think it just needed a cleaning and ramp polishing.
The thing was a very sweer shooter, thank you.
I have a Springfield Armory 1911A1 milspec model, which I got based on a recommendation here, but I can't hit a bloody thing with it. I sent it back once, and am missing by a foot instead of by two feet now. It's frustrating as hell.
Spend the money on a good shooter - take a couple of pops, and if that thing is a solid, good gun, you'll hit your paper plate target consistently at 10 or 15 yards, and you'll know you have a keeper. Don't scrimp on your .45.
A Kimber Eclipse is probably what I would get if I were spending that amount of $ on a 1911. Nice looking firearm. I've read that Kimber has had problems working the bugs out of their external extractor, but I think they have cleared that up.
Thinking about getting a 1911, myself. Kinda waiting around to see if Taurus's 1911 is any good. Looks like a lot of gun for the money if it turns out to be accurate and reliable. Lacks the Eclipse's beauty though.
I have a SPAS-12...
What?
Anyway, a friend of mine came by the house yesterday with a new Kimber in 45 ACP. Good shooter right out of the box. I don't own a Kimber, but I like them.
I've got a Colt Gold Cup Trophy and a Glock 21. Yesterday I ordered a HK Tactical. Comes with a threaded barrel for suppression accessory. Should be here in time for Christmas.
LOL.....
Yep I "had" a Kimber pro carry stainless and loved it....put a few thousand rounds through it and never a burp. In a moment of sympathy and care for my brother I gave it to him as he was still active duty, had a family and couldn't afford a class piece (a gun) like the kimber.
Kimber was / is the only 1911A1 that I have seen with all ya want or need in a 1911A1 that didn't need "tweeking" by a hammer monkey as it came NIB from the gitgo.....
I have the G21/G30 in 45ACP, G37 (45GAP) and the SIG220 in 45ACP and assorted 1911A1's.....all said an done I'll carry any of those for my personal self defense needs....
Given the task of selecting one......the 1911A1.
Not the flashiest 1911 in the world, boy do I sure want one.
An all-around excellent handgun, by the way. It usually serves as my home defense handgun.
