A 22-year-old man was killed in Colorado Springs after accidentally shooting himself outside a fast-food restaurant drive-through.
Randle Cunningham shot himself in the groin while at the drive-through window at a Taco Express at about 1 a.m. Sunday.
Witnesses said Cunningham was paying for food he ordered when he dropped some of his change on the ground, while taking it from the cashier. The witnesses said Cunningham opened his car door to retrieve it and bent over, apparently causing a weapon he was carrying to discharge.
Cunningham was rushed to Memorial Hospital, where he died at about 1:45 a.m.
Police said there were no other people in Cunningham's car at the time of the shooting an that an autopsy would be conducted Monday.
Love to know what he was packing.
Gun in the waistband, safety apparently off. Pretty stupid.
Sounds like a perp coming to/from scene of crime?
Isn't there a "Randal Cunningham" or such in the NFL?
Hold muh fries an' watch this!
Even more stupid perhaps that it was loaded.
I hate it when that happens... LOL.
We can at least give the guy credit for understanding that an unloaded gun in your waistband isn't very useful....
Dropped the Dime on himself?
(sweet)
It had to be cocked and unlocked, or had no trigger guard.
Is this a new no-action trigger?
So he gave her a tip?
Prolly a gang-banger. From the article I don't know which Taco Express it is, but there is one pretty close to the part of town where most of the gang-bangers get into trouble.
Taco Express? Sounds a couple rungs lower on the ladder than Taco Bell. He prolly would have died after eating the food anyway.....
He's packin' less now than before.
Does anyone know if this young man was related to Randy "Duke" Cunningham -- R-California (50th)??
Whatdayamean you can't carry a revolver 'cocked and locked'? I do it all the ti....BOOM!
Isnt it time we banned drive thru's???
Facts:
1) This incident occurred at a fast food drive through window at 1:00AM;
2) a gun in the possession of a 22 year old male who drove up to the window, went off;
3) the gun went off at a point in the sequence of events where the cashier's cash drawer would have been open.
Detective GovernmentShrinker concludes that the most probable explanation for the discharge of the gun is that Mr. Randle Cunningham was in the process of trying to rob the cashier, had the gun in his hand with his finger on the trigger, was nervous to begin with due the planned robbery and was further rattled when his nervousness caused him to drop his change, and at that point inadvertently pulled the trigger.
Good thinking! I always figure if your getting drive-thru food at 1:00 in the morning you're probably plastered. Leanin out a car in a drunken stupor, loaded gun in your pants......
