Detective GovernmentShrinker concludes that the most probable explanation for the discharge of the gun is that Mr. Randle Cunningham was in the process of trying to rob the cashier, had the gun in his hand with his finger on the trigger, was nervous to begin with due the planned robbery and was further rattled when his nervousness caused him to drop his change, and at that point inadvertently pulled the trigger.*************
Well done.

and at that point inadvertently pulled the trigger While holsterless/waistband (gangster) carry is pretty scary, unless it was a cocked revolver (mondo stupid) it still takes more than slight pressure to actuate the trigger.
Your explanation makes sense, if he was trying to rob the place he easily could have yanked the trigger during the drawstroke and shot himself.
OTOH, maybe he DID have a custom S&W Combat Master with a glass smooth 1/4lb SA trigger pull, hammer cocked and pointed at his crotch loaded with .357 JHPs. Perhaps he was a risk taker.

"...Isn't there a "Randal Cunningham" or such in the NFL?..."
Yes there was. He played for the Eagles. The Cunningham mentioned here is spelled Randle. Two different people,
