Davie -- Police say a man who broke into an apartment and raped a woman at gunpoint Wednesday night was so brash he forced his victim to write him a check for $1,400 -- in his own name.
Officers arrested Anthony R. Roberts minutes after the crime at a check-cashing store two miles from his victim's home...(MORE)
..."One minute he is on a crime spree," Bamford said, "and then next minute he is confessing, `Yeah, I did an armed home invasion,' like it was nothing.
"That's life in prison in Florida," Bamford continued, "even without the sexual battery."

Sometimes life in prison just isn't enough...
I agree 100%
Certainly not the sharpest knife in the basket...
That's one weird story. I like that reporter's style. Good article.
That's a big "job well done" to the clerk for acting on these suspicions. Makes me wonder how often these check-cashing stores (most of which are located in the pretty shady parts of town) have to deal with suspicious characters. I'm sure they all have some stories to tell.
C'mon, the guy just exudes intelligence. /s
About 4 months into it a really bright young assistant DA asked me, "So, what do you think of these guys?" (Meaning the crooks.)
"I think they are stupid. I see case after case of criminals committing crimes in a manner almost guaranteed to result in arrest and conviction. And, to top it off, as soon as the cuffs are on their wrists, most of them confess!"
He replied, "Yep, they're dumb alright. It's the only thing that keeps us ahead of them. There are a heck of a lot more of them than us, but they are dumber than mud."
Yeah, dumb is the key issue here. Unfortunately for everyone else, dumbness sometimes uses knives, guns and sexual assault to act out.
I'm just glad they caught this dumb guy. Like I said, life in prison isn't enough, and good for Florida for making it so. Maybe the guy will be happier there, anyway, with three squares and the roof and amenities.
