One of Ireland's best known conservative journalists Kevin Myers is currently under 'fire' - quite literally - for his most recent Irishmans Diary for the Irish Times.
In Kevin's most recent column he used - as he is wont to do at times - quite strong language to criticise the current number of young women in Ireland, who are becoming pregnant to receive welfare cheques.
Kevin's outraged the liberals of Ireland by referring to these women as 'MOB's' - an acronym for Mothers Of Bastards.
Unfortunately I cannot link to the Irish Times site from here - it's a subscription site. But I have found the article excerpted. Kevin is being vilified for saying this:
"Even as things stand, we are bribing the unmotivated, the confused, the backward, the lazy into making the worst career decision of their young lives, and becoming professional unmarried mothers, living off the State until the grave takes over. Our welfare system is creating benefits-addicted, fatherless families who will be raised in a culture of personal and economic apathy - and from such warped timber, true masts are seldom hewn."
...and he also said this:
"And how many girls, and we're talking largely about teenagers here, conciously embark upon a career of mothering bastards because it seems a good way of getting money and accomodation from the State? Ah. You don't like the term bastard? No, I didn't think you would. In the welfare-land of Euphemisia, what is the correct term for the offspring of unmarried mothers?
He continues, using the acronym "MoB":
"And how do MoB's cope when their male bastards (in the literal sense) become metaphorical bastards in adolescence? How does a woman assert her will over a sour, aggressive, uncommunicative boy? Well she usually doesn't - a study of the parental backgrounds of gang members in London and New York - where they are ahead of us on these matters - will tell you. Mob members usually stressed out Mobs for mothers and absent FoBs for dads."
There are demands on all of the radio stations today for Myers to be fired from the Irish Times. And I'm sure the Times might gladly do it, because they are so leftist. In fact Myers (and a Monday column by Mark Steyn) are the only conservative influences in the paper.
While I think the 'bastard' term was a bit strong - I'm with Kevin 100% on what he's saying.
Yup.
A single man gets about 140 a week on the dole. So a single mother gets more (obviously). Then there's the children's allowance, and the free medical card, and the rental subsidy, and the refuse collection waivers etc. etc. etc.
Thanks for posting.
He should have used another term since the kids shouldn't be called names. Reagan called similar women here "welfare queens", some of whom had several children by different fathers. That term was aimed at the real wrongdoers, the adults. Which, I guess, is one of the reasons Reagan was so liked by so many.
I hope he survives but the Times really is a leftwing rag.
dubh Linn - "doov lynn", the dark pond.
Hey, its technically accurate... if its a male child
Really? What's the correct 'technical' term if the child is female?
hhhhhhmmmmmmmmmmm... ya know.... I never thought to lokk that one up
The author is right on. Basically, the government has created a permanent underclass under the guise of "compassion" an underclass that will keep the liberals in power permanently.
The biggest complainers, of course, are those in receipt of these benefits.
Myers should have used better language to make his point...but then again, but using the 'bastard' word, he sparked a debate in Ireland which, hitherto, wasn't being voiced.
Sometimes you got to be un-PC
My thoughts? Political Correctness, the world over, simply prevents the uttering of the simple truth. About most anything.
You got THAT right toots! :-)
I might not have used the same wording, but I applaud the idea. :^)
I don't know *how* the Liberal-Socialist quislings manage to stay so much on the same page, disseminate their "attack plans" with such precision, but I damned well know they do.
And this instance is simply more proof of the vast left-wing conspiracy, to me.
Be that as it may this "Kevin" guy spoke the truth -- period.
The entire *globe* (& Ireland's apparency a *tad* behind) has been (and *is*) engaged in a titanic cultural war and now he's become involved & may become a casualty.
If "Kevin" enjoys writing of "truths" than he must be prepared to weather the blows of all comers.
Their "attacks" are an extremely well thought out, anticipated reaction to their social engineering schemes.
Moreover if "Kevin's" sacked by this filthy Irish Liberal-Socialist rag, he *must* consider it the luckiest thing that may ever happen to him *&* his career.
Really, A-M.
In one enters any battle convinced they'll not live through it & they'll double their effectiveness.
*That* mind-set's called "fearless" & nothing -- & I mean nothing -- scares the daylights out of the opposition more than a fearless opponent.
Listen: did you hear about the "insurgents" who drove into an Iraqi village -- on or around election time -- with the intent of terrorizing the Iraqi citizens there; BUT, something *weird* happened this time.
The enamels were met by an avenging -- & well armed -- mob of *villagers* who commenced to shooting & killing every "insurgent" they could lay a bead on and running the rest outa town (~on the proverbial rail). They even burned the car the miscreants drove to their village in to the ground.
See my point?
Just as some of Iraq's peaceful, peace loving population -- apparently -- has realized precisely *how* to deal with their own countrymen bent on murdering their own people?
Well the world's political right had better close ranks & fight fire with fire.
Anyone who wants to see an end to violence -- be it passive or active -- had better damned well accept there's really only one way to do it & insodoing be prepared for the ultimate -- & very real -- *sacrifice* associated with pursuing such a dream.
So.
Ask "Kevin" -- & ye self for that matter :o) -- how much y'all are willing to sacrifice for your right to free speech.
If you're fearless than then roll up your sleeves & wade into the buggers with fists flying.
Follow? :^)
...are ye ready to *rumble*? ;^)
Please add me to the ping list.
Landru.....ye sparked me plugs with this one!!
I know a MOB, she raised a SOB, she was one time whingeing to an 'old school' country woman;
MOB: I don't know what to do with him. He climbs out of his bedroom window [upstairs], and threatens to jump if I don't leave him alone.
Old Schooler: Well I'd push the fer!
Needless to say, the SOB is now a drug dealer - and he got cut up recently by 'hoods', whom he owed money to!
You make the best sense! As always! :-)
Ready to rumble? You betcha! :-)
