Robert Zubrin's Book, The Holy Land (Satire)
Me

I was stunned to discover that, I recieved an email from Robert Zubrin himself apparently! Man famous for his Mars Direct plan. A plan to send people to Mars as cheaply as possible. I know many people here think he is a little crazy with his whole Mars Direct thing. Though I share the same dream of one day seeing people on Mars, there has been a big question as to whether or not his plan is the best. You can read all about his plan at his site here at http://www.marssociety.com

But this topic focuses on another aspect of him. Recently (I think, last year I believe), I talked about Robert Zubrin's new non-Mars book, The Holy Land. At the time, I didn't know its title. Though I do know that it is a satire of the whole Middle East situation. Here is the description I found about the book.

"To save the Minervans from oppression in the central galaxy, the liberal Western Galactic Empire relocates the sect to their ancient homeland of Kennewick, Washington. But for the fundamentalist fanatics ruling the USA, the presence of pagans in the holy city is intolerable, and they launch an interstellar campaign of destruction in protest. A madcap role-reversed War on Terrorism ensues."

Anyways, I thought the plot of the book sounded interest. Certainly something many people here would like to read, and, while the idea that instead of Muslim Fundies, it is Christian fundies might be iffy to many people here, if you get past that (and realize, he isn't talking about Christians here), it certainly asked raises the right question (got to keep in mind it is a satire). I myself haven't read the book yet (no time), but I thought people here would like to know about it.

I was pretty surpised that Robert Zubrin would actually contact me. Apparently he is a lurker to this forum. Hmmmmm.

Opps. I didn't mean the thread title to sound like this thread is a satire. What I meant was, the Robert Zubrin's book, The Holy Land, is a satire.

BTW, according to the email I recieved from him, it has been well recieved with conseravtives and supporters of Israel. So, if anyone wants to check it out, sounds like a good satire about the problems in the Middle East.

Zubrin is one of the most consistently morose individuals I've ever met. He projects a whiny, lugubrious stubborn pout: the whole world won't follow me on my quest to Mars!

It's made him a "celebrity" and a talking head on Discovery Channel(s). Probably a lot of money.

Hey Bob: Mars is cool...sort of. To me it grows ever more boring. An empty red desert strewn with rocks, at a temperature of -40 C and a CO2 atmosphere at 0.01 times the pressure of Earth's atmosphere..."Mars ain't the kind of place to raise a kid/and there's no one there to raise them, if you did..." or words to that effect.
