LETTER TO THE ROLLING STONE
(sung to the tune of On The Cover Of The Rolling Stone)

Oh, we’ve heard phony rock singers.
with an odor that lingers.
…Don’t know anyone on the charts.

We see through the sham;
we know pop music’s a scam.
CDs are 20 dollars a throw.
We are under assault;
hacks insisting it’s Bush’s fault,
But the thrill you’ve never known
is the thrill that’ll getcha
When you cancel your subscription
to the work of fiction Rolling Stone.
Rolling Stone...
Don’t wanna see Al Gore on’a cover.
Stone...
Don’t care that Madonna’s a mother.
Stone...
Gonna save my money canceling a
subscription to the Rolling Stone.

They support a candidate who’s scary
traitor named Kerry,
Who embodies hippie dreams.
He’s got a billion-dollar momma
liberal in a limousine.
But its’ really all about,
Getting the Prez tossed out
Can’t join them in their schemes.
So just cancel your subscription
to the work of fiction Rolling Stone.

Gotta lotta wide-eyed sheep
Who’ll vote the way they say.
They’ve got radical leftists
preaching the commie way.
All those millions Jann’s
been givin’ to Salon.com,
Funding the leftist agenda.
But I cancelled my subscription
to the work of fiction that is Rolling Stone.

For the record I haven't subscribed to this rag in a LONG time (15 years or more?).

MOJO is better and doesn't get confused into thinking they are a political commentary magazine, a tv/movie review magazine, or Maxim. MOJO's writers also know a lot more about what is good music (old and new).

You can see the financial boost Jann Werner gave Salon.com this winter in this Salon Stock Deathwatch:

If you say. I'm sticking to the Mad Magazine court settlement that said you could write songs and tell readers to read them "to the tune" of another song.

Shel wrote "On The Cover Of The Rolling Stone" (Cole Porter or his estate raised the lawsuit and lost).

I know I'm getting to be an old fart when the only music mag I read these days is DISCoveries, a record collector's mag. Used to devour Creem, Trouser Press, NY Rocker, etc. etc.

I subscribe to No Depression...run by some lefties out of Portland, OR, but it does a good job of covering Americana, roots rock, bluegrass and country rock.

To: GodBlessRonaldReagan; 537cant be wrong

I don't pick up Gldmine or Discoveries much. I don't have the budget to buy all the used LPS, grey market bootlegs, or reissued boxed sets I want that I see advertised there.

You might also like Ugly Things magazine (it only comes out about once every year or so).
