LETTER TO THE ROLLING STONE
(sung to the tune of On The Cover Of The Rolling Stone)
Oh, weve heard phony rock singers.
with an odor that lingers.
Dont know anyone on the charts.
We see through the sham;
we know pop musics a scam.
CDs are 20 dollars a throw.
We are under assault;
hacks insisting its Bushs fault,
But the thrill youve never known
is the thrill thatll getcha
When you cancel your subscription
to the work of fiction Rolling Stone.
Rolling Stone...
Dont wanna see Al Gore ona cover.
Stone...
Dont care that Madonnas a mother.
Stone...
Gonna save my money canceling a
subscription to the Rolling Stone.
They support a candidate whos scary
traitor named Kerry,
Who embodies hippie dreams.
Hes got a billion-dollar momma
liberal in a limousine.
But its really all about,
Getting the Prez tossed out
Cant join them in their schemes.
So just cancel your subscription
to the work of fiction Rolling Stone.
Gotta lotta wide-eyed sheep
Wholl vote the way they say.
Theyve got radical leftists
preaching the commie way.
All those millions Janns
been givin to Salon.com,
Funding the leftist agenda.
But I cancelled my subscription
to the work of fiction that is Rolling Stone.
Rock and Roll PING!
I'll see your song and raise you.
MOJO is better and doesn't get confused into thinking they are a political commentary magazine, a tv/movie review magazine, or Maxim. MOJO's writers also know a lot more about what is good music (old and new).
With apologies to Shel Silverstein?
Shel wrote "On The Cover Of The Rolling Stone" (Cole Porter or his estate raised the lawsuit and lost).
let me know if you want to be added to or removed from the ping list
I know I'm getting to be an old fart when the only music mag I read these days is DISCoveries, a record collector's mag. Used to devour Creem, Trouser Press, NY Rocker, etc. etc.
Nice job.
I subscribe to No Depression...run by some lefties out of Portland, OR, but it does a good job of covering Americana, roots rock, bluegrass and country rock.
gold mine was a good record mag also
I don't pick up Gldmine or Discoveries much. I don't have the budget to buy all the used LPS, grey market bootlegs, or reissued boxed sets I want that I see advertised there.
I love the articles on old groups..but the ads do drive me crazy!
So, who's got the joint?!?
