In 2011, Israel released 280 terrorists in exchange for 1 Israeli soldier.

All 280 of those terrorists had been previously sentenced to “life in prison” due their being highly dangerous.

I’m Jewish. I’ve lived my entire life (so far) in Squirrel Hill, the Pittsburgh neighborhood where 11 Jews were murdered at a synagogue in 2018. My mother was born in Tel Aviv.

I think this exchange was an incredibly stupid thing for Israel to do.

The Jews are like that. They have an old expression, "He who saves but one life, saves the world entire." They cannot conscience letting one of their own die through inaction. The 280 terrorists they'll deal with (again) if the need arises, but whether that need ever will arise is not a certainty. I remember when that exchange was reported, and I thought at the time it was a bad idea. I sympathize with prizing every Israeli life, but tragic realities require making grim calculations. Those 280 murderers have most likely been personally responsible for any number of additional Israeli deaths.
