When the TSA started most people perceived the agents as just under the Secret Service. Then it was revealed they are not much different than big box greeters or the part-time worker who rents the shoes to bowlers.

I refuse to go through the x-ray machine until I see my luggage go through, too.

It's always been my personal policy to stay on the same side of the secure zone as all of my belongings. I stay with my stuff.

This includes travel partners. We don't get separated, and we don't go through the security until we can go through it together.

A good friend who retired from my company a year before I did, moved to Tampa and got a job at the St. Petersburg airport as a TSA agent.

He said his fellow agents were the dumbest workers he has ever had the displeasure to work with.

And for what it's worth, he was a UAW union steward in my plant...but a staunch conservative....LOL!

TLDR: Charges dropped against the female. They tried to get both of the men into “diversion programs” where you do a little community service and they drop the charges once you complete it. One of the guys was rejected from the diversion program, which means he probably has disqualifying previous convictions, or had already been through such a program before. And he was still working at the TSA.
