Texas judge strikes down free HIV drugs, cancer screenings under Obamacare

A federal judge on Thursday struck down a key provision of the Affordable Care Act, jeopardizing free coverage of a wide range of preventive services including mammograms, colonoscopies and mental health screenings for nearly 168 million people on employer health insurance and on Obamacare’s individual market.

District Court Judge Reed O’Connor, the author of several previous rulings against Obamacare, sided with conservative employers and individuals in Texas who argued that the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force that set those requirements has been acting unconstitutionally since 2010. The decision blocks enforcement of the rules nationwide.

Excellent.

They can live risky lifestyles on their own dime. There is absolutely NO reason we should have to pay for it.

Obamacare. Good example of out of control government.

No consequence of repealing Obamacare is worse than Obamacare itself.

No. There are NO "free" services or goods. The correct term is TAXPAYER-FUNDED."

Yep. “Free” to me means YOU pay for it.

“Obamacare. Good example of out of control government.”

Really? I know my husband was relieved to know that Obamacare provided him maternity benefits. He’d be shattered to know that next time he’s pregnant he’ll have to foot the bill.

Now it takes months to schedule a colonoscopy. This may reduce that time by a few weeks.

This pernicious rule under CommieCare removed the price tag on medications and procedures deemed "preventative." That's an awfully broad brush to paint with, and cost insurance companies, i.e. policyholder, massive amounts of money. It is the textbook definition of redistribution of wealth - Hard Socialism.

If this made sense, why aren't retail grocers forced to give away food because people will starve without it? Why not give away houses for "free" because shelter is essential for life? You get the picture. Communism.

Why should it be free. Gay men have one of the highest median incomes in the U.S.

Good. The healthcare premiums have skyrocketed since all of this "free" stuff was forced into the healthcare insurance. If you want coverage for that crap, make it a menu item with a monthly charge and free the rest of the employees (and employers) from subsidizing it with jacked up premiums.

My employer recently added an "attestation" of being a non-smoker to get better insurance rates. If you claim to be a non-smoker and are discovered to be a smoker, it is cause for termination.

No one's outrageous insurance bills will go down, but you will have to pay all the preventive screening costs before your deductible is met.

The best outcome from this would be to step back from the almost wholly fraudulent US medical care system and a thorough overhaul.

Nothing is “free”, someone has to pay for it.

“No. There are NO “free” services or goods. The correct term is TAXPAYER-FUNDED.”

___

That is one thing (of several) that ticks me off about the media. Surely at least one editor should realize that the services are not “free”. The costs are simply transferred elsewhere. Since Obamacare, my GP co-pay has doubled and my specialist co-pay has more than doubled. Also, I have to see my doctor twice a year to get my BP meds refilled, so that’s an extra co-pay. My prescription prices have also increased.

Also since the law passed, the waits for getting physician appointments has gotten longer and longer each year. Large hospitals have bought up all the small physician groups since they had no choice if they wanted to keep practicing. The newer regulations practically forced them to do so.

A hospital bought out a specialty group I was seeing three times a year, and they began billing my visits as an “out-patient hospital visit” with a $250 co-pay each visit. The doctor, nor the type of service changed, simply the owner of the facility.

I have heard of no one whose medical costs have gone down since the ACA passed. No one at all.
