Naturally, dogs are protective of things they consider theirs such as their food, toys, and shelter. Once they get adopted by a human they consider them family and become protective of them and their children. That's where the saying "dogs are family" comes in, and the three videos in this article just prove that.
When you click on the video, it shows cute dogs who have been abandoned by their owners being run down by cars. (Just kidding; trying to stay in the freerepublic groove!)

As some sage once said: “I want to be the kind of person my dog thinks I am.” And, of course, Will Rogers’ famous quote: “I don’t know if dogs go to heaven; but when I die I want to go where the dogs go.” And Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic:
“You think dogs will not be in heaven? I tell you, they will be there long before any of us.”
Good dog! Water drownings are the worst.
I had a brother who would do that. Saved my life when I was four. He was ten.

And then the dog even goes and rescues the ball for the little girl.
When you lock your dog in your car trunk for an hour he's always happy to see you when you open it. Wife not so much.
