Maryland Cancer Moonshot Initiative -- Update from Governor Hogan
Governor Hogan News e-mail | April 8, 2022 | Governor Larry Hogan

Posted on 04/08/2022 6:15:23 PM PDT by Tolerance Sucks Rocks

Dear Marylanders,

On the day that I found out I was cancer free, I pledged that as long as I was governor of this great state—and long after that—I would continue to stand with all those who are fighting this terrible disease.

We have been working hard to increase access to treatment and raise awareness, and just last week, I announced my Maryland Cancer Moonshot Initiative, which dramatically expands all of our efforts to detect, prevent, treat, and find a cure for cancer so that we can save more lives.

This week, we broke ground on the first part of our Maryland Cancer Moonshot—a new, best-in-class cancer center, and the first ever of its kind in Prince George’s County. We are investing $67 million to fully fund its construction, so that residents of Capitol Heights, Largo, Upper Marlboro, and all of Prince George’s County can receive the high-quality cancer treatment and medical care that they deserve.

In total, we are committing $216 million as a downpayment to jumpstart our far-reaching Maryland Cancer Moonshot Initiative, which also includes:

This initiative is very near and dear to my heart. I know just how difficult it is to get that life-altering diagnosis, and to experience that feeling of not knowing what comes next.

With this game-changing Cancer Moonshot, we’re going to harness the power and the capacity of our world-class Maryland public health, education, and research facilities to produce the talent, the tools, and the treatments that will help us make decades worth of progress in just a matter of years, and make Maryland a powerhouse at the very forefront of the nation’s efforts to defeat this dreadful disease.

Sincerely,

Larry Hogan (signature)

FWIW.

As a cancer survivor, I will bet that Hogan will cure cancer long before President Butt-Head even remembers that he himself promised that.

As a former resident of Maryland, I know he’s a gross ogre, but I hope this works out.

I had my inpatient AML treatment and stem cell transplant at the Greenbaum Cancer Center which is inside the University of Maryland Hospital.

Hogan was treated for his Lymphoma there as well.

They are excellent. Great investment!

… we are committing $216 million as a downpayment to jumpstart our far-reaching Maryland Cancer Moonshot Initiative…

If this works like every government initiative in the last 100 years, by the time they are done Maryland taxpayers will fork over a couple of billion dollars.

I’m done caring about anything Hogan says. He has screwed us over every chance he gets.

The Maryland Profile in Courage refused to veto or sign a bill today outlawing homemade hobby firearms.

That means it goes into law.

“On the day that I found out I was cancer free, I pledged that as long as I was governor of this great state I would find a way to get Maryland taxpayers to fund my pet project.”

It may be a worthy cause, but it is beyond the budget and resources of a single state.

I’ve always been uncomfortable with “moonshot” being used in place of the expression “spend more money”. The moon landing was a very specific and measurable goal: “. . .before this decade is out, of landing a man on the Moon and returning him safely to the Earth. . .” The cancer equivalent statement just does not exist. Is there really a goal worthy of the handle?

Just another reason to be glad that I moved to Florida. Maryland’s RINOs make Florida’s RINOS look like Reaganauts, I would bet.

Hope it works, but we’ve heard so many promises for so long.
