...one of the best-loved songs ever recorded about the Civil War: "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" by The Band. The song was first recorded in 1969, and was later covered and/or performed by Joan Baez, Johnny Cash, Jerry Garcia, the Black Crowes, Bruce Hornsby, and the Allman Brothers Band, among others...

Well, if we are going to say, that we want to avoid all music and entertainment from liberal/leftist singers and Hollywood idiots, we would miss out on quite a bit.

And it’s in the eye and ear of the beholder, as to whether we would miss anything important.

Indeed...lefties did make good music

I mean ....for what it’s worth ...you know...

I’m quick tonite admit it

Ok aside from being pun sowing

I confess I liked San Francisco flowers in your hair

I lstill like Get Together by the Youngbloods and Sly Stones lefty tributes

Not to mention Long Time Gone and Almost Cut My Hair ...

Or JA Volunteers with Stones alum Nicky Hopkins on piano......

It’s all great stuff....some was hamfisted like country joe or john lennon

Lefties sucked then yes but their menu then was heavily laden with the draft....and didn’t have a lot of the crazy shite we see now

It was our time....and it sure beat bubble gum

Well ok I thought the monkees were tolerable....so shoot me

In high school our main rival was the Rebels. Our band would play this song and we would all sing when we played them in football.

Good Times.

Were you familiar with 3 other big name acts of that time?

A.The Partridge Family;”I Think I Love You, C’mon get Happy”

B.The Cowsills: The Rain, The Park,.. Hair

C.The Byrds. 8 Miles High, Turn, Turn, Turn, Green Tambourine.

As you know, the 60’s and 70’s became deep wells for good music of various types. Some you may not want to admit ever liking.

Makes me almost glad I have a hearing problem that makes it almost impossible to understand the words sung with music.

A lot of the music leftists made in the '60s and '70s sounds really great.

Reading the lyrics though, is enough to make your blood boil.

Because La Baez really admired the rank and file Confederate soldier. He was a true rebel fighting to defend his small piece soil. She also did not disparage the US soldiers in Vietnam.

I think the Cowsills Rain Park and other things is a first class pop compilation...I love it

Byrds ditto but I like the earthier Untitled or Grams influence

Partridge....I like Shirley and Susan

Both lust worthy

Poor old Joanie. She did have a nice voice.

I have a cassette somewhere in a box of Johnny Cash covering that song.

Back in the day she was quoted as saying she’d sing for any cause for $50,000.
