A recent NPR report said that disinfecting surfaces using sprays and wipes might not be necessary to prevent the coronavirus.
Scientists say that if a person infected with the coronavirus sneezes, talks loudly, or coughs, droplets containing particles of the virus are airborne and can land on surfaces.
But Emanuel Goldman, a microbiologist at Rutgers University, told NPR the risk of getting infected from touching a surface with the virus is low.
“In hospitals, surfaces have been tested near COVID-19 patients, and no infectious virus can be identified,” Goldman says.
Instead, what is left over is viral RNA, otherwise known as the corpse of the coronavirus.
Back in January and February, scientists thought the coronavirus could be primarily transmitted through surface contamination.
A study from the New England Journal of Medicine at the time suggested the virus could live on surfaces for days.
Because of the results of that study, the public began to wipe down their groceries, disinfect common areas, and even wear gloves.
But now scientists are saying that people who disinfect to prevent against the coronavirus might be overdoing it....

But if you have a Karen in your life who sprays everything in sight and quarantines packages for 14 days, you might want to track down the NPR piece and have her read it. It might relieve some of your stress if she believes NPR.
Or watching her deal with the cognitive dissonance caused by having her fear confronted by what a source she finds credible has to say could be a somewhat entertaining to watch.
If it’s on NPR, the “karens” will hear it!
The hyper disinfecting is going to backfire in a couple ways.
First off, is that it leaves nothing for our immune system to practice with.
The other thing is that hyper disinfecting leads to disinfectant resistant viruses and bacteria, making it harder to control them at a later date.
It’s the same principle as what happened when antibiotics first came on the market and were over used. Now we have antibiotic resistant bacteria like MRSA and C-diff, that are the scourge of hospitals..
The disinfectant industry made billions though ... so it’s all good!

I have a box of those. Had it for ten years or so. I did use some to wash dishes when my yellow dish gloves got holes in them.
I live alone so I don’t worry about Covid-19 or anything else on my “surfaces.” In the course of a normal day I already wash my hands more than they can take so I haven’t increased that for covid either. :)
Do they use the same logic regarding the execrable masks?
This is astonishing, but not surprising.
For the past few days I’ve been seeing stories from Leftist media implying, if not saying outright, “Well, gee, wow. Maybe things are getting better. Maybe some of the masking and disinfecting wasn’t really all that necessary after all ...”
You just KNOW what is happening. It’s been predicted by many of us since this began with 14 days to “flatten the curve.” Once the Left thinks Trump is gone — and they want to go to their concerts, and sports games, and clubs ... Suddenly all this horror they have promoted for months with their lapdog media will just ... sort of fade away.
These people are despicable.
Russia Russia Russia ... Impeachment ... Pandemic. It’s all part of one big, insidious operation.
I know nothing but the main threat from this is that it appears to be airborne.

That said, I have no reason to think that this coronavirus would not behave like all the others out there such as the common cold, flu, etc.
All documented to last in a viable state on many surfaces. But of course the idea that Covid-19 can last on plastic for 6 days vs. 10 hours or whatever for the others is just nuts and is/was propaganda.
Next up: handwashing doesn’t do anything, either.
They truly can make naive, low-info people believe anything.
It must be really airborne here on the San Francisco peninsula because everybody acts as if there’s a huge, poisonous gaseous COVID cloud everywhere in the outdoors.
I passed a teen lass yesterday on a trail and she saw I wasn’t wearing a mask, so she put up a binder she was carrying on the side of her face! It made me crack up...as if that action would have ANY effect on transmission.
Liberal morons.
I don’t ever remember Fauci saying we should wipe things down. It was always “wash your hands” (and that’s because you touch your face more than you think).
