Washington NFL Team Gets New Name [semi-satire]
Semi-News/Semi-Satire ^ | 19 July 2020 | John Semmens

After years of pressure, the Washington Redskins National Football League team has agreed to change its name. As compensation for the loss of value of the team's inventory of trademarked gear, the team will be renamed the Washington Senators and be granted the privilege of employing a filibuster play in all home games. Once the Senators' team captain or head coach notifies the referee that the team is calling for the filibuster play the ball may not be snapped unless 60% of the players on the field agree to allow the ball to be snapped.

Head Coach Ron Rivera says "I would only call for a filibuster if we are leading by a small margin late in the game. Admittedly, this play would not be very exciting in itself, but a win is a win."

Washington D.C.
“For city nicknames wikipedia lists the
following for DC: The Capital of the World.
Chocolate City. District of Crime.”

Go with the last = DC Criminals.
That covers ALL of them.

November: Let the recruiting begin.
New blood from which to
choose.

V K, you are right in your direction.

I think the committee deciding replacement for the Redskins is carefully deliberating in order to capture the true spirit of criminal metaphor.

There are many!

I just explored synonyms for criminal and got directed to various animals.

Some animals are vicious, others are greedy, others are cunning.

I recall that the TRiUMPhant winner of the replacement skyscraper for the Sun Times building in Chicago delivered 50 different architectural drawings to the city officials to win approval.

Likewise, a selection of suitable helmet logos seems like a wise way to go.

“... outright sneaky, and will take anything that’s there for the snatching. Here are seven animal kleptos.”

bumblebee
sperm whale
skua
hyena
magpie
burrowing owl
Bdelloid rotifers ??have no idea exactly what these are!

The above according to:

Or, you might consider the mythical swamp creature, Bunyip.

Personally, I prefer the magpie (magpie press) or the hyena (vicious beast, laughs as he does his dirty work)

The Washington Senators was an actual professional baseball team from 1901 to 1960.

That would now be the Minnesota Twins. If I remember right, there was a second Washington Senators team, that is now the Texas Rangers. 🙃

When the Washington Senators team moved to Minnesota in 1960 I lost all interest in major league baseball. At age 12 or 13 I was thoroughly disillusioned and gave away my shoe boxes of baseball cards. A hardened cynic was born.

Ha, ha! Lots of good suggestions. Like the Bunyip.

Then, of course, there’s the most feared Honey Badger, who Bannon took as its mascot.
