Sunday News Roundup: Atlanta Riots, Austin De-Funds Police, CDC Pushes Panic Porn
DB Daily Update ^ | David Blackmon

Posted on 06/14/2020 5:22:20 AM PDT by EyesOfTX

Here we go again. – Riots broke out in Atlanta last night after video emerged of another questionable police killing of a black man. Here is an excerpt from a report at Aljazeera, which sadly is a far more reliable source of actual information these days that most American media outlets:

Atlanta’s Police Department on Sunday released bodycamera and dashboard camera footage of the attempted arrest and fatal shooting of Rayshard Brooks outside a Wendy’s in Georgia’s capital on Friday.

Officers Garrett Rolfe and Devin Brosnan attempted to arrest Brooks after questioning him and getting him to performing inebriation tests.

Footage showed Rolfe attempting to put handcuffs on Brooks before a struggle begins.

Dashcam footage showed the scuffle in more detail, with Brooks, Brosnan and Rolfe all on the floor, before a taser is fired at Rolfe. Three gunshots are then heard while the three are off camera.

Rolfe’s death sparked protests in Atlanta on Saturday night, leading to the Wendy’s where Rolfe was shot being set alight.

[End]

So, in this case, we have a guy who got drunk, passed out in his car while presumably trying to get a burger at the local Wendy’s, and ends up dead when he resists arrest. Knee-jerk defenders of the police are going to yell, “he was resisting arrest!!!!!!”

Yeah, and so what? He was shot in the back while running away from the police officers, drunk out of his mind. Why in the world would a properly trained police officer even pull his gun in that situation, much less pull the trigger? It is absolutely mind-boggling that this specific incident can possibly take place immediately in the wake of three weeks of social unrest over the police murder of George Floyd.

It almost makes you want to think all of this stuff is pre-planned, doesn’t it? But nah, that couldn’t be the case.

Get ready for an entire summer of this stuff, folks, because it’s coming.

Well…’bye. – Atlanta’s police chief resigned in the midst of the rioting, and nobody seems to be interested in talking her out of it:

Atlanta’s police chief resigned and a police officer was terminated after the shooting of a black man, Rayshard Brooks, who later died.

Mr. Brooks, 27 years old, of Atlanta, was shot outside a Wendy’s restaurant Friday night and died soon after. Videos of parts of his struggle with police and its aftermath, widely shared on social media, sparked anger in the city, amid the continuing national outcry over the police killing of George Floyd last month.

“Out of a deep and abiding love for this City and this department, I offered to step aside as police chief,” said Chief Erika Shields, who served in the city’s police department for over two decades, in a statement released Saturday evening. “It is time for the city to move forward and build trust between law enforcement and the communities they serve.”

[End]

Good move. Given the performance of her officers in this case, you kind of have to wonder what in the hell Ms. Shields has been doing to try to build that trust over her 20 years on the force.

Well Bye GIFs | Tenor

“And you shall reap what you sow.” – It’s always great to see personnel from CNN being assaulted by the rioters they’ve spent the last 3 weeks pretending are “peaceful protesters.” Here’s a nice example from last night in Atlanta:

The Wuhan Virus Panic Porn campaign continues to accelerate. – Hey, remember when the goal of the COVID-19 mitigation efforts was to “flatten the curve” in order to ensure that our hospitals weren’t overrun with patients? Remember when the people at the CDC, Antony Fauci and Deborah Birx assured us that was the case?

Yeah, that’s all gone now, subsumed in the frenzy to prevent President Trump from re-starting his campaign rallies. This morning Trump’s own CDC is quoted by The Hill as saying we might have to shut things down again as “cases” are rising in half a dozen states:

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said Friday strict social distancing measures that were put in place in March may have to be implemented again if coronavirus cases in the U.S. rise dramatically, CNBC reports.

“Right now, communities are experiencing different levels of transmission occurring, as they gradually ease up onto the community mitigation efforts and gradually reopen,” Jay Butler, CDC’s deputy director for infectious diseases, told reporters Friday.

“If cases begin to go up again, particularly if they go up dramatically, it’s important to recognize that more mitigation efforts such as what were implemented back in March may be needed again,” Butler said. It’s not clear what is considered a dramatic rise.

[End] Again, we have flattened the curve. We have prevented the hospitals from being overrun with COVID-19 patients, if indeed any such possibility ever actually existed, which is unlikely. Despite the media’s politically-motivated hysteria over what they fraudulently continue to refer to as “cases,” deaths due to the virus continue to drop daily. The number of hospitalizations are going up in some areas, and that is actually a positive sign that more and more testing is being done and that patients are now able to have elective and non-emergency surgeries performed.

Given that Fauci is even denying that this increase in the number of “cases” doesn’t mean there’s a “second wave” coming, it is obvious we have a big problem at the CDC, at least in terms of messaging if not in terms of mismanagement. If these people can’t get their talking points straight, then they need to be prohibited from speaking to the corrupt news media, which is only interested in whipping up a new public panic about the virus.

Oh, hey, that whole “defund the police” deal is not just a blue state thing. – The city council for the socialist enclave of Austin, Texas did this on Thursday:

“You cannot solve a public safety crisis by creating another,” Corby Jastrow, president of the Greater Austin Crime Commission, told the Austin City Council on Thursday.

After a 12-hour meeting, the city council voted unanimously to partially defund the Austin Police Department.

The council’s decision directs the city manager to halt any new sworn officer staff positions, as well as redirect money from the department’s budget and use it toward other social services. The city manager will bring back proposals to the council over the next few months as they decide specific numbers for next year’s city budget.

As far as how much to cut, some socialist and leftist groups have been petitioning the council to take away at least $100 million—a quarter—from the police department’s budget next year.

Hundreds of citizens, including some members of the Democratic Socialists of America, testified to the council on Thursday in favor of the proposal, while some voiced a public safety concern over the decision to defund.

[End]

That’s right, folks: The vote was unanimous. There is not a single member on Austin’s city council willing to defend the city’s police department. You should expect to see similar votes on similar idiotic actions to come from the Texas cities of San Antonio, Dallas and maybe even Houston soon.

Make no mistake about it: There will be massive flight of actual taxpayers from every city that takes these actions. Decades of gentrification and urban revival efforts will go completely to waste. They’ll all be looking like re-runs of 1980s Detroit soon.

Thanks, Democrats!

That is all.

A complaint was made, officers responded. Brooks was apparently under the influence of something, to the extent that he could not legally drive his car away after being questioned. They tried to arrest him. He resisted arrest, disarmed a policeman of his taser, and fired that taser at the officer. He was at that point shot. That is what the video shows.

Fully justified shooting, imho.

How about, “don’t be driving drunk in public, don’t resist arrest, don’t disarm a police officer of his weapon, and don’t then fire it at him, and you won’t get shot!” That is the message the Atlanta Police Department and mayor should be sending to the Black Lies Matter fools. But instead, they pander, kneel and throw the officers to the wolves. Disgusting.

Sort of puts a different spin on it, doesn’t it?

Well, at least “they” got rid of the ATL police chief.

“Defunding the police” may become a moot point. Existing cops will be looking for a way out, and there’s going to be few young people that will choose a career path in law enforcement in today’s political climate.

People just don’t understand what is happening in these situations. The police are in a fight for their lives. If that guy manages to grab one of the police officer’s guns he will try to kill them with it. Maybe he can beat them down and beat their head into the pavement and kill them. Maybe he can disable one of the police officers with the taser, take his gun, and kill him. I got arrested one time, many years ago. I had never even considered the possibility of getting arrested before. The police officer said, “turn around and put your hands behind your back “. I did exactly that, even though I was falling down drunk. It never occurred to me to do anything else.

I am tired of these nincompoops in power. If a police chief is not qualified, let her step down to a more qualified person now, not to succumb to a Marxist coup when all of a sudden a controvercy happens

We are seeing the equivalent of the abdication of the Tsar

Far from being a moot point, “defund the police” should become the new bumper sticker slogan the Democrats are forced to defend themselves against. Every time they appear. Make them defend that. Make them attack that. Donald Trump wins. End of story.

"He was shot in the back while running away from the police officers."

I don't think that's accurate.. From what I've seen in the video he turned and faced the cops and was aiming a tasor at them.. (?)

“War on Cops” by Heather MacDonald written in 2015 lays this all out and correctly points the finger of blame at Obama and Holder’s handling of the Ferguson issues. It created the “Ferguson Effect” which is cops are gun shy and back off conflicts with blacks and blacks become more aggressive in arrest situations; resisting more.

Now we have the war on our whole culture which the cops are there to protect.

Yep. The Pinochio’s “I want to be a real boy” syndrome. Would not be surprised she associates as a lesbian or something.

For every successful real female soldier or pilot, we get 10 girl wannabe who just want to go to flight school to marry the pilot guy. These parasites are such a waste.

“We are seeing the end result of several decades of affirmative action.”

Interesting observation. Add to that LBJ’s great society money give-away. IMO, both a form of reparations.

Now if we start using hard cash payments from those who never held slaves given to those that never were slaves, violence will be perpetually used to get more and more and more and - - - -

The proper use of a head lock, and nightstick would have led to a much different ending. Once again, liberalism kills.

I was just thinking, a few more of these events and black males will be beyond the reach of the law. If the police don’t have the support of the public, it is all over. The public’s chickens will come home to roost, quickly.

How about firing the officer who was disarmed, and increasing the physical fitness requirements, so that officers are better able to subdue people without having to kill them? Even if it results in hardly any female officers?

How does that justify pulling the trigger when the guy is running away?

All the training I've ever had emphasized that you shouldn't use excessive force when the threat no longer exists (castle doctrine doesn't apply in this situation).

I think it was stupidity and/or lack of training. I can't imagine how someone could set such a thing up.
