Saturday, was a great day. With friends and family we celebrated my wifes birthday. it was a delight to be amongst loved ones after 10 weeks of isolation.
On Sunday, my wife and I were standing in line at a local gun shop to buy our first gun. What a difference a day makes.
I never have been anti-gun. Dad owned a British Enfield, my brother and I tagged along when he went shooting. I had also kept a Browning Superposed for many years for a friend, who lost his way. It was a pleasure to return his fathers gun to him. (If Not for the Browning) I just was never motivated to buy one. Saturday supplied that motivation.
Prior to his order my wife and I, found ourselves standing, 12 deep in 108 degree heat, at a local gun store. We had decided to buy a little piece of second amendment protection. When we left the line was thirty deep.
The time has come to make decisions. Sunday, I made mine. My wife and I departed the gun shop, after the background check was completed, with a Glock 19 and two boxes of ammo. I suggest getting a piece of Second Amendment protection, while you still can.

We bought 100 rounds of FMJ to take to a range for practice shooting. There was not range at the store we bought the gun at.
We have signed up for a private class on gun safety and use. The instructor is the daughter of a friend and is an NRA approved trainer.
No, a Glock 17 may not be enough, but this is a start.
The rioting here in Scottsdale was one mile from our house and we live on the canal, with a straight shot (no pun intended) walking path to the area where this looting occurred.
Congrats. Now buy a case of ammo and take a two day training class. Beware of Glock zipper leg.
You'll run thru the two boxes the first day at the practice range :(
Rule Three: Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target.
“...a Glock 19 and two boxes of ammo....”
Not a bad 9mm piece to get started with, but need the training, practice, several more magazines and a whole lot more ammo....lots and lots of ammo.
They should have done this years ago, got the training, prep and ammo. Now, it’s almost too late. They were fortunate to get the 19 and ammo.
(Ducking and running before the 1911 guys get here 😁)

It’s always good to see the light, but now is not the time to buy a gun.
I had the misfortune to buy my last gun, a Buckmark pistol, just as the madness was ramping up. There were three guys working the counter and about twelve people in line. I waited an hour and a half for my turn, then another hour an a half ten days later to pick up the gun.
Luckily, I already have my serious guns and ammo stacked deep. I won’t add to the stockpile until after President Trump wins reelection, and prices crater.
And after the soyboys tire themselves out rioting again, of course.
Somehow Glocks never fit my hand the way I like
I have a couple 9 mm M&P Shields with six or seven magazines. I’m a big believer in having plenty of magazines for your firearms.
Also have a Kahr cw9, which amazingly enough has a broken rail in the polymer frame - no idea how that happened. The polymer frame cannot be ordered. So I have over hundred dollars in useless magazines for that gun.
Ammo? Let’s just say I took the possibility that Hillary could get elected very seriously and prepared appropriately.
Hey, my brother lives there - called me Monday to tell me he signed up for his NRA handgun course. Never owned a gun in his life, now knows why I always had guns.

For home defense, my first choice would be a 12 gauge pump, and 00 buckshot. Best stopping power there is that is easy to acquire. Then a handgun. I would still get the 12 gauge.
I am thinking I want one (just to have, and keep my standard size 1911 company).
Same controls, smaller, easier to carry in Summer.

This makes me very sad. Sad that so many of my countrymen are beginning to actually believe that a hot CWII is not without a real possibility. I don’t care if you think at this moment that this is just “riot” insurance, but I think many are beginning to get a sense that civil society make be on the cusp of breaking down.
When we start to see the call for defunding police departments, do you think the remaining police officers are going to stick around with 60% less support?
When we are now seeing police chiefs, police officers, and others starting to kneel in front of rioters/protesters, you better believe that people are taking notice of this.
Have you had time to get to the range yet? How’d it go?
Hi.
My comments?
Practice. Practice gun safety and practice with your weapon. Practice cleaning it blindfolded.
Practice tactically if you can. Practice so that you love the smell of cordite and the feel of hot brass.
Enjoy.

upchuck, I have been to the range many times, just never with my first gun (I’ve gone with my son and used his pieces). The new gun is still in it’s carrying case and we have signed up for a class for this weekend. I appreciate the advice and well founded concerns.
Now... Range time... Range time... Range time... {:-)
Glock 19 or 17 is a great choice. Congratulations.
