Just some information for anyone who may be traveling. I have a group of friends who are stranded in the Dominican Republic. Apparently, their government shut down all of their borders with little notice. I'm being told no planes or ships are allowed in at this time. My friends were scheduled to return back to the US today and the airline, Delta, canceled everything last night. Jet Blue took the same actions.
Apparently there are many tourists on the island who have no idea how they are getting home. I spoke to the State Department this morning, they are aware and said it is occurring in other countries.
If your abroad or know anyone who is, share this information.
State Department says Rent an apartment..............
this is why countries are telling people to come home
I think Germany just recalled its citizens.
Trudeau did just before he closed the border
Probably gave his buddy Prince Harry a heads up because he got back just in time
Dutch side of St Maartin told all non-residents to get off the island. Period. Instructed to go to the airport and get on one of the few flights still coming in and be gone by Sunday
Desperate Australians trapped in Sth America plead for emergency flight
Hundreds of Australians trapped overseas have pleaded with the Prime Minister to get Qantas to evacuate tourists stranded in countries including Peru and Chile where international flights have been cancelled and travellers are confined to hotel rooms.
A group of 100 Australians trapped in Peru and Chile have formed a WhatsApp group to share information as stories emerge of tourists being stopped from leaving some towns by military checkpoints and police.
One traveller, who asked to be called Tom, revealed he and a group of trapped Australians had been stopped from leaving the country by military and police, despite official government advice for tourists to leave.
They wouldnt let us get out. Every police checkpoint, it would take hours to get through, he said.
It was pretty devastating to get all the way there and still be denied clearance to leave.
Were I single I can think of worse places to stuck than the Dom Rep I knew in the 80s and early 90s
They have to have known this was a distinct possibility.
Unless they’ve been there over a month or more - they knew they were traveling in risky times.
How well do they swim?
I wonder about Martha’s Vineyard.
Haven’t heard a peep out of Obola.
That’s a tough one.
Not much to offer, but maybe, coat your self in something,
how to say — unappetizing.
I wonder if it’s feasible for a bunch of people to rent an ocean ferrying boat, even if it’s a barge?
Greta could send her sailing yacht!
I hear that there may be several cruise ships available for hire.
State Department is probably right in this case.
It could take to get back to the states and you don’t want to be price gouged and eventually shut out of some hotel or resort.
An apartment will be cheap enough and you can hole up without having to venture out for meals.
I’d say get in touch with the American consulate and arrange for your Chinavirus Check to be sent there.
I would rather lick door knobs in Wuhan than be stuck in the DR
I mean sure, what better place could one choose to be during a pandemic than in a third world country that shares an island with Haiti?
State Department says shouldn’t have gone to Dominican Republic.
PS Learn Spanish.
Germany is trying to piece a recovery-flight plan. Lufthansa has agreed to do it, with the government paying them the cash up front. The problem is that you have thousands in this category. Germans stuck in Thailand, Canada, South Africa, Tunisia, Turkey, etc.
Present expectations, at the pace of things...no one is expecting flights to restart on regular schedule until early May (that’s marginally discussed at this point).
Not me buddy or buddette ....but Im not buying the panic
Dom Rep is loaded with available women
Thats a pull for me...alas Its a bridge too far now
