Advice Needed for Attending Trump Rally
Trump 2020 ^ | December 5, 2019 | self

Posted on 12/05/2019 4:54:25 AM PST by Bigg Red

Need advice, please. I will be going to the Hershey Rally on 10 December with a sister and two of her adult daughters. We plan to get there early, and we know that there will be a long wait. I am thinking about bringing an old lawn chair that I can throw away since I am sure that I would not be allowed to bring it into the arena. Will there be a way for me to dispose of the chair? What is the bathroom situation while one is in line and while inside the arena?

Advice from FReepers who have gone to a Trump rally will be appreciated. I could not find any FAQs at the website.

Thanks in advance for your help.

If you’re an older or disabled person, consider bringing one of those seat canes. No would would they prevent you from bringing that inside. The Americans with Disabilities Act, and all that.

I'm sure facilities vary by venue. I've been to rallies in small town Maine and Manchester, NH. Got there a few hours before rally, no trouble getting in.

These days, with advance crews setting up outdoor jumbotron, I would expect some sort of portapotty facility outdoors.

I have no idea about chair leave-behind. If I was doing that, I'd leave it, and then exit same door and look for it. If it's still there, take it home. If it's gone, well, great! You won't get pinched for littering.

An old lawn chair is terrific idea. At the Dallas rally, several people did just that. They left the lawn chairs outside the arena which worked great for those of us who couldn’t get in because we had been working all day, and the venue filled before I was able to reach the gate.

I used the chairs someone had left, and I left them when I left the rally. I presume the person who brought them might have been able to pick them up on the way home.

Something to consider.

Ugh. In post #2, no would would = no one would

I hate it when Russian hackers mess up my posts.

Wacky thing, I went to the venue’s website, but no info about the rally there. There is a bit if info in the FAQs about what’s allowed on site generally. It can vary by venue. Best course of action might be to call the venue and find out about specific do’s and don’ts. Ex: No SLRs allowed at the rally we attended, only fixed lens cameras, cellphone cameras.

In the pre-election Trump rally there, there appeared to be only one entrance open the whole time. Processing went fast, but if you get there two to three hours early, you should have few problems getting in.

There will likely be trash cans there. You may be able to set the chair against one of those.

I bet that is a Trump security item, not a venue item. The press can bring in the bigger, separable cameras, but the public cannot. Takes too much time to assess a SLR. Easy to assess a fixed lens.

Empty your pockets of anything you don’t need. Airport type security at the gate.
Wear comfy shoes.
In my experience the line moved fast enough to make using a chair is a hassle.

I avoid large crowd events, so I don’t have any advice, but I hope you have a really good time!

I am betting they would not allow even that. Could be used for a weapon.

Thank you.

I don’t like crowds either, but I will make an exception to see our wonderful POTUS. And a crowd of patriots sounds like a great group to be with.
