My Worst-Case Impeachment Scenario
Vanity | Oct 18, 2019 | Matt Bracken

Posted on 10/18/2019 6:17:47 AM PDT by Travis McGee

Here is my worst-case impeachment scenario.

A. Adam Schiff's kangaroo inquiry secretly drafts articles of impeachment. Their validity matters not one whit.

B. The articles of impeachment (valid or bogus, it doesn't matter) go to the house floor. It passes easily, with every Democrat and some GOP congressmen voting to send it to the senate for an impeachment trial.

C. Mitch McConnell immediately moves for a full Senate trial. He has already said he would do this, and I think I know why: his family is just as corrupt as the Biden family, and he wants Trump's swamp-draining to end ASAP, before Trump's anti-corruption push eventually moves on to other corrupt senators, including himself.

D. 20+ GOP senators vote to convict Trump, shocking the nation and the world, and leading to his removal from office.

IMHO, some GOP senators will do it to hide their own corruption from further examination. Some will do it because of their personal animosity toward President Trump. Some will do it because they are already under deep state (corrupt FBI/CIA) blackmail control. Some will do it for the favors they will be promised following Trump's removal. Some will do it because they are just plain ornery contrarians.

Here is a list of 18 GOP senators who I think could vote to convict Trump in a full senate impeachment trial. Throw in a few total surprises (blackmail, etc) and the result might just shock the world. They only need 20. Here is my list of 18 (so far) potential GOP votes against Trump. Please let me know if you totally disagree with any of these possible votes to convict Donald Trump, or if you have some more senate GOP names for my list.

1. Mitch McConnell KY 2. Mitt Romney UT 3. Ben Sasse NE 4. Susan Collins ME 5. Ron Johnson WI 6. Richard Burr NC 7. Roger Wicker MS 8. Lisa Murkowski AK 9. Lamar Alexander TN 10 Mike Lee UT 11. Marco Rubio FL 12. Joni Ernst IA 13. Martha McSally AZ 14 Cory Gardner CO 15. Roy Blunt MO 16. Rob Portman OH 17. Pat Toomey PA 18. Rand Paul KY

I would leave only Rand Paul off the list.

My assessment is that it is more than possible these people will try to forcibly remove Trump from office because impeachment will actually fail. Then desperation could drive a scenario where Pelosi announces that Trump has lost his marbles and for the good of the country attempt to send a contingent to remove and detain Trump. I wouldn’t trust the secret service as far as I could throw them. Remember most coups emanate within the palace walls.

There may be a very good reason why Trump has activated the entire marine reserves. Right now the only people he can trust is the military. Everybody else is suspect.

Honestly I have no idea whether your scenario is plausible or outlandish, I do not know what the future holds in this regard. I'll just say that I find less and less comfort each day in the constantly running series of threads with the theme of "You just wait, thousands of sealed indictments, IG reports, etc" when no one has even begun to do jack hsit about the coup that's being actively perpetrated on a daily basis. No arrests, no indictments, really no investigations going anywhere or so it would appear.

So, in the let's call it unlikely event that you need it, here's the name of the second biggest chickenhsit in the entire US Senate.

A guy who goes on talk radio back home and hits all the right talking points, then takes another phone call from another media outlet and gets on both sides of any issue, for example Trump's recent gambit with Syria and Turkey.

A guy who is nonetheless totally sold out to the Cheap Labor Express (tm).

A guy who who actually belongs near the head of this list, right behind our old buddy Milt Romley.

That would be James Lankford, R-OK.

A Southern Baptist carpetbagger from Texas originally, who moved to Oklahoma only because Oklahoma is a less populous state and the Southern Baptists are more of a political force. And it's OK for me to say that, BTW.

IMHO, every R who would try to get in on this knows they’d be committing political suicide...

No harm in looking at worst case scenario, though.

I would simply hope that PDTJ and 65 million of his “bestest buddies” would be more than enough to motivate quisling senators to acquit.

Be of good cheer!

I doubt we will ever have an actual impeachment vote unless the Democrats decide it is OK to vote and fail to reach a majority.

The Democrats only have a 17 seat margin above a bare majority.

The Democrats picked up 40 Republican seats in 2018. How many of these will be willing to vote to impeach, assuming they want to be reelected?

To get a successful Yes vote the Democrats would have to create huge electability problems for many of their members.

Impeachment is political suicide for both parties. There is a clear reason Nancy has not had the vote. Her members are scared to death. Internal polling tells them they could lose half their seats this time around.

Thanks for playing along but this rolling coup is only for the benefit of the Corporate Media mafia......they practice their form of Neo facism in front of us daily. Disney, Viacom, and AT@T own the networks and control the flow of fake news you see on your TV screen.

Carry on...........

I could see two of those vote to impeach just out of Trump hatred. I could see two or three vote to impeach because they're running for re-election in Blue or Purple states. But for the rest to vote to impeach would require they demonstrate the courage of their convictions regardless of political fallout, and nobody but nobody in either the House or Senate has that kind of character.

“If however the nominee is a leftist and they get slaughtered, then that argument is neutered, the party can moderate for the 2024 election when they actually have a chance of winning.”

This makes a lot of sense.

Clinton was not removed from office because the public didn’t want that. Same thing with Trump.

The charges against Clinton were serious, the charges against Trump are all BS, but the outcome will be the same and for the same reason.

People felt that, despite his manifest flaws and failings, Clinton was doing a good job as POTUS and I’m sure they feel the same way about Trump.

It really is the economy, that guy was right about that.

Judgment in Cases of impeachment shall not extend further than to removal from Office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any Office of honor, Trust or Profit under the United States: but the Party convicted shall nevertheless be liable and subject to Indictment, Trial, Judgment and Punishment, according to Law. -- U.S. Constitution (Article I, Section 3, Clause 7)

I think the most likely outcome is the Senate votes to dismiss without a trial. There is no way they will let President Trump’s team call witnesses and publicly present all the dirt they have on the swamp creatures.

Forget about "President Trump's team." Someone speculated last week that a worst-case scenario for these @ssholes in Congress would be for President Trump himself to show up in the Senate chambers and make a mockery of his own trial.

It isn’t that I don’t like you posting your opinion. It’s that you are making a fool of yourself. You don’t know who Matt Bracken is and you call yourself a FReeper? Do some research.

I’m hanging on to what Trump has said many times: What has happened to him must never again be allowed to happen to any President. I believe him, I believe his commitment to this and I think he has the ability, the resources and, as important, the courage to live up to his commitment to our Republic and our Constitution.

OF COURSE you’re wrong:)

You won’t be able to find 20 Republican Senators that want to instantly end their career.

Do not underestimate how much Republicans fear Trump’s base.

There are lots of GOP Senators that don’t want us to stop the Bush Plan for North Mexico (aka USA).
Getting rid of Trump is essential.

Alexander, Graham, McSally, Murkowsky, Hoeven, Rubio, Tillis, Burr, Lankford, Gardner, Cornyn, Hyde-Smith, Collins, Sasse, Kennedy, Shelby, Ernst, Blunt, McConnell, Wicker, Portman, Isakson, Johnson, Toomey, Rounds, Thune, Gaines, Lee, Romney, Capito, Barasso and Enzi are all Bush League Republicans.
