IRS Targets Poor Americans, because Harassing Wealthy Too Costly

You might want to sit down for this one.

If you thought the IRS was just a necessary yet uncomfortable part of American life, here’s some more evidence that it’s simply an arm of the United States government that deserves to be excised.

The IRS just admitted that it audits the working poor at about the same rate as the wealthiest 1 percent. Here’s why, according to ProPublica:

"…the IRS said, auditing poor taxpayers is a lot easier: The agency uses relatively low-level employees to audit returns for low-income taxpayers who claim the earned income tax credit. The audits — of which there were about 380,000 last year, accounting for 39 percent of the total the IRS conducted — are done by mail and don’t take too much staff time, either. They are 'the most efficient use of available IRS examination resources,' Rettig’s report says.

"On the other hand, auditing the rich is hard. It takes senior auditors hours upon hours to complete an exam. What’s more, the letter says, 'the rate of attrition is significantly higher among these more experienced examiners.' As a result, the budget cuts have hit this part of the IRS particularly hard.

"For now, the IRS says, while it agrees auditing more wealthy taxpayers would be a good idea, without adequate funding there’s nothing it can do. 'Congress must fund and the IRS must hire and train appropriate numbers of [auditors] to have appropriately balanced coverage across all income levels,' the report said."

Except for fraud, the IRS almost never goes back more than 3 years. And you could not have claimed ANYTHING involving a house using a 1040EZ. So...what were you really doing?

This has nothing to do with a simplified tax code. This is almost all due to the EITC and Additional Child Tax Credit. They allow a family to get a “refund” of $9-10,000 with an annual income of 30K.

Wealthy people - including Donald Trump - don’t use TurboTax. TurboTax ought to be called TurboCheat because you can claim ANYTHING using TurboTax. People with CPAs tend to have decent tax returns.

Thanks for the ping, TADSLOS.

Yet another reason (as if we REALLY NEED A REASON!) to replace the Marxist “Progressive” income tax with the FAIRtax and abolish the IRS!

As my tagline says: “We will never be a truly FRee people so long as we have the income tax and the IRS.”

To find out how to help us do just that, go to https://www.bigsolution.org and https://www.fairtax.org.

Did I say that “We will never be a truly FRee people so long as we have the income tax and the IRS.”

Oh, I did!

Well, it needs to be said a lot more!

We will never be a truly FRee people so long as we have the income tax and the IRS.

I never said I used a 1040EZ for the new house in that instance. It was something that went by the state in '13 when we financed the place and the IRS got semi-involved now. Some crap about 'pay this by 1/1/2020 or we'll have the IRS pay it for you from your federal refund, if you get one'. My wife was already dealing with it when the letter from the state revenue office came and I opened it. I let her deal with that stuff because I have a typical guy brain when it comes to math and taxes. I can't even balance the checkbooks. And the prior instance was the IRS auditing itself at random and caught what they thought was a taxpayer filing error from several years prior. I wish they'd do it again because I could use an extra grand right now. 🤣

Yeah, they’re parasites, even when the error is on their end. Even if you file for bankruptcy to reorganize, all that does is put any outstanding taxes on hold until the court discharges it, then the wolves are right back on your front doorstep. Been there, done that.

I’m hoping that the second term of Trump’s “draining the swamp” includes ending the Federal Reserve and the IRS. I’d also include the CIA. They have to go.

A tax return preparer told me his biggest problem working in the poor areas of Arizona was the number of folks claiming “daughters” who were nieces living in Mexico with their real parents. They split the $$$ with the Mexican family.

Plus illegals claiming EITC under a fraudulent SS#.

I think the real reason for this attention, is to uncover and go after illegals.

It would be funny to tell an illegal he needs to come to the IRS office to pick up his check -- where he would be met by ICE agents.

If they would audit people who have a federal tax ID, no SSN, who claim a bunch of dependents, all usually with no SSN either, they would catch a lot more tax cheats.

Thanks for the question, Biggirl. I am most happy to answer it.

FAIRtax has a Frequently asked questions page at https://FAIRtax.org/faq. This is how the FAIRtax experts answer your question:

How does the FAIRtax protect low-income families and individuals and retirees on fixed incomes?

“Under the FAIRtax Plan, poor people pay no net FAIRtax at all up to the poverty level! Every household receives a rebate that is equal to the FAIRtax paid on essential goods and services, and wage earners are no longer subject to the most regressive and burdensome tax of all, the payroll tax. Those spending at twice the poverty level pay a tax of only 11.5 percent — a rate much lower than the income and payroll tax burden they bear today.

“Under the federal income tax, slow economic growth and recessions have a disproportionately adverse impact on lower-income families. Breadwinners in these families are more likely to lose their jobs, are less likely to have the resources to weather bad economic times, and are more in need of the initial employment opportunities that a dynamic, growing economy provides. Retaining the present tax system makes economic progress needlessly slow, thus harming low-income people the most.

“In contrast, the FAIRtax dramatically improves economic growth and wage rates for all, but especially for lower-income families and individuals. In addition to receiving the monthly FAIRtax prebate, these taxpayers are freed from regressive payroll taxes, the federal income tax, and the compliance burdens associated with each. They pay no more business taxes hidden in the price of goods and services, and used goods are tax free.”

Here is a short video which explains the FAIRtax: https://youtu.be/7b7YrxMjsa0

And here is a short video which explains the prebate: https://youtu.be/HTOOw7u_lsI

Please be sure to visit https://www.bigsolution.org and https://www.fairtax.org to find out more about the FAIRtax and to find out how you can help us replace the Marxist progressive income tax with the FAIRtax and abolish the IRS!
