In case you haven't heard, this lad named Shepard Smith apparently quit on FoxNews today.

I love this time of year. Just got done with a brisk walk on this crisp, cool, cloudy autumn day in Southern Connecticut. All the leaves turning colors and gently falling to the ground. If you are like me, you try to catch them as they fall around you. Swirling in the wind, the leaves are more tricky to catch than you might think. But what to do when you do catch one? I just put it in my pocket for a while and then eventually I pull it out and let it fall to the ground further away then it would normally have done.

It's the school season and my walk coincided with the school buses coming through and dropping off their kids. So at every bus stop, there was this cluster of idling mini-vans and SUVs idling on the side of the road waiting for the big yellow bus. It seems that no child is allowed these days to get off the bus and walk into their homes on their own two feet. No! Instead, they must be immediately herded into another motor vehicle and whisked off to some planned activity (i.e. karate practice, music lesson, etc.) or delivered to the very door of their home, which might only be a half a block away.

I have actually seen parents literally drive to the end of their driveway in order to retrieve their child off the bus. Then they will back right into the garage with their child. I kid you not.

Helicopter parents...I can go on. When I was a boy and in Little League, I think my parents went to maybe 2 or 3 actual games. Otherwise, I was on my own. Practice was entirely on me. I'd ride my bike to and from the practices with my baseball glove hanging off the handlebars. These days, every Little League practice is accompanied by parents in lawn chairs who have coolers of cold drinks and snacks at the ready for their child. Yes, during practice, many of the players will run over to their parents for a few sips of soda or some sort of snack to tide them over. And there is NOTHING the coach can do about it.

If I had run off the field in one of my Little League practices, my coach would have kicked me off the team and told me to come back when I was ready to take playing ball seriously.

But I digress. Back to fall. This is when the bees and yellow jackets get especially aggressive. I try to sit on my patio taking in the cool breezes and foliage but these bees are everywhere, climbing on my glass of beer or trying to get into my bowl of peanuts. I've been stung three times over the past five years, always in the fall. Never in summer, when bees are more docile and tend to mind their own business.

Finally, not sure if there is a thread already posted here regarding some fluffy-haired, effeminate news-reader named Shepard Smith, who apparently quit FoxNews earlier today. Anyway, I don't have cable TV anymore so it don't matter much to me but this might be a big deal for others so thought I'd get the word out. Good day.

When I was a kid I walked five miles up to the school and five miles up the hill on the way back. I relished the rain because it was the only fresh water I got all week to wash off the mud from cleaning out the stables and the pig pens.

Right. I had to get up in the morning at ten o’clock at night, half an hour before I went to bed, (pause for laughter), drink a cup of sulphuric acid, work twenty-nine hours a day down mill, and pay mill owner for permission to come to work, and when we got home, our Dad and our mother would kill us, and dance about on our graves singing ‘Hallelujah.’

MP: But you try and tell the young people today that... and they won’t believe ya’.

ALL: Nope, nope..

As ignorant of WTP’s wants and wishes as any of d’rats.
It would be entertaining should he try. Name Recognition and all, as much as he is disliked by those who know him, that would be a hard sell.
