I had an opportunity to work in Los Angeles. I turned down the offer for one reason only. It was in Los Angeles, and that was forty years ago.
I was there in December teaching a special class at the Los Angeles City Hall.
The whole place stunk of urine and human feces, and there were tents and drugged out/drunk homeless people everywhere. I got accosted a few times but kept walking. I wore a surgical mask in my twice daily walk from the Doubletree Inn to the City Hall.
It was a good move. I heard it was a good place to live until about 1990.
That is crazy.
It is really sad what has happened to California.

I grew up in, and worked in Long Beach until my wife, and I’d had enough in 1987. Moved to Riverside. Now we are getting ready to move anywhere, but.
I work in Los Angeles, and Shithole is actually pretty weak and timid for an explanation, it really is much worse than you can imagine and pictures don’t do it justice. I encourage everyone to drive thru Obama Row every few months.

You have no idea how much truth is in that statement.
In silicon valley the homelessness has become alarming, everywhere.
Homeless encampments on every open piece of dirt with mountains of garbage.
They actually ripped out most of the plantings along the freeways here so the ‘homesteaders’ cannot hide there...then the graffiti jerks came back.
For myself the worst part is my compassion for the homeless hoard has evaporated, like it is gone.
How dare the democrats steal my compassion, but I ask myself when are regular people pushed so far they start throwing Molotov cocktails at the problem in the middle of the night?
Sucks here now...
So is San Francisco. Literally.

I just came back from a couple of weeks in southern California...San Diego up to Oceanside. I’ve seen things that I haven’t seen in the last 5 years going there...bums peeing in the entrances to businesses (thankfully after hours of open), more tents popping up (not as bad as LA). On a positive note...police presence (patrol cars) were plentiful along Strand blvd (on the ocean)in Oceanside, and there were no visible homeless in blankets or sleeping bags on the beaches and in the small city parks like the last 2 or 3 years.
SoCal native here. You heard right.
I finally couldn't take any more of the social rot, and moved my family to Texas fifteen years ago.
The place is unrecognizable to me now.
Some rats in LA already carry it.
How in the world can the people who live in CA stand all the mess? Aren’t they ashamed? Don’t they feel dirty? What am I missing.
