We've been with Verizon for years and have suffered with broken texts, missed calls, spotty notifications, and updates that don't. We are thinking about going with US Cellular. How about sharing experiences to help us out.
It depends on where the cell towers are in your area. If At&T is closer then go with them. If Verison then go with them.
My daughter wored for Verizon, so we got our phones free. Now she works elsewhere, but we still have reasonable Verizon service. Absolutely not a single problem...except I needed a new battery after about 8 years. Got at local store for $50.
If my phone dies permanently, I can get reconditioned Galaxy 5 at AMZ for less than $100.
So what’s the problem?
We actually got fired by AT&T, in the middle of a month. All paid up and everything, just going about normal bidness. Verizon has been fine.
I know some will dislike this because it’s Google, but I switched from Verizon prepaid to Google Fi with a Moto G.
It’s a flat rate plan with a variable data component that has an upper cost limit. I get equal or better service than I had with Verizon for less cost. My company reimburses me for cell service, so I get to keep the extra.
I’m in a rural area and the multi network feature seems to work very well for me.
But it’s Google and I knew the ramifications going in.
Virgin Mobile is cheeeeap and decent aervice. No contract.
I have been w AT&T for a long time, never had any problems, everything works well.
Keep in mind that the discount carriers buy coverage from, most likely, AT&T or Verizon. They have limited speed and other compromises, which is why it is cheaper. If you don’t need a lot of fast data, it could be a good deal.
AT&T and Verizon in a lot of areas are comperable. In other areas, one has better coverage than the other. I use Verizon and get good coverage in the eastern U.S. but I was visiting a large city in Texas a couple of years ago and I got poor coverage.
I have AT&T for just a flip phone and they have in the last month jacked up my rates to $72/month. I’m looking for another carrier.
I believe that Net10 also offers Verizon service to some.
The main thing you have to watch for is what carrier works best in your area. In my area we can't use Sprint or Virgin Mobile - around cities I believe they are fine.
Like several have said, it’s probably best to talk with local people who might be using other available services.
Outside large cities, the ownership of local telephone companies has often changed hands one or more times. Where I live - small town, rural - the phone company was originally built by a local family and run for several decades, then bought a company whose name escapes me, then owned by Verizon for a decade or more, and now has been owned by Century Link for ten or more years. The age and condition of telephone plant can vary significantly from area to area for many different reasons.
Verizon has the best coverage in rural Eastern Oregon but just too expensive. We switched to Tracphone 29.95/2 months per phone, which works out to 30 bucks a month for two phones.
Bought used LG smartphones for 40 bucks each off of Amazon.
Saved a ton of money over the last 3 years and the service is fine where we live. Sucks when we visit the kids in Montana though.
Going with US Cellular may not do you any good if they don't have a tower within range.

Has someone dragged a US Cellular phone out to your location and gotten good service?

I've installed a couple of Wilson amplifiers to boost people's reception.

I travel very often and Verizon seems to be the best. Better than ATT.
I’m with AT&T ....sucks!!!
CO.
It must be nice to have cell service but again I have peace and quiet.
We’ve had Verizon for 20 years. We’ve considered changing, but like its dependability. When the whole gang visits the family homestead in rural western NY, our phones are the only ones with reception. Not AT&T. Not Sprint.
We like their customer support. The basic support is very good. We go farther and pay a small amount each month for Tech Coach, which is 24/7. With the old basic devices, that wasn’t necessary, but the smart phones can be glitchy, and there are so many features to dig through.
I’d like to pay less, but like the dependability.
When we cruise, Verizon works well with Cellular At Sea on ships.
I’ve had US Cellular for 22 years. Top notch!
TMobile 55+ plan... $30 per month ,(includes tax and fees) includes unlimited everything....
We have 4 lines unlimited everything for 120 per month.
We have used https://Tracfone.com for over 10 years. It has the best rate and good phones or you can get a Simm card from them to use an Apple.
You go on line and enter your zip code, and they will tell you which service is best for your area.
They use Verizon and AT&T in our area, and Verizon works best in our area. Friends a few miles away use AT&T.
Comcast has a new system in our area and with a low rate the first year. If the rate increase is like their tv plans. The costs will double or more after the first year.
