If you are granted the privilege to drive by the government you agree to give up your Fourth Amendment right against being searched without probable cause. Do you still think America is the land of the free?

Many cars have blue tooth hands free systems...does the law differentiate use vs use as in talking through a blue tooth system while hands are on the wheel vs. texting?

“An act relating to motor vehicles; authorizing a peace officer at the scene of a traffic crash to use technology to determine if a driver was using a handheld wireless communications device at the time of the crash”

That’s not searching a phone.

Dishonest writing.

If that is the case, I foresee lots of people having multiple phones.

But I say horse pucky, would you willingly hand your phone to a stranger and let them walk away with it for 5-10 minutes?

Ten minutes? LOL! They'll need to make sure you weren't just texting, but also not changing the stations on your Pandora account or entering driving directions on your map. They're going to entrust this job to some data company with a juicy state contract and they'll quickly get backlogged.

It'll be weeks, if ever, before you get your phone back.

Time to get a burner phone. "Here you go officer."

Half the time I don’t even have a phone with me. Hard to take something I don’t have.

Just read the law.

That is four pages of very scary.

And I’m no lawyer, but I can’t believe, if approved, this thing will pass constitutional muster.

Why not just go to a judge and get a frickin’ warrant? !

I’ve kinda wanted to test the system by holding a broken cell phone to my ear while passing a cop and seeing what they do about it.

Officer, I wasn’t talking or texting. I was just holding this useless piece of plastic and glass. What makes that different than a cup of coffee, or a Big Mac?

Easy solution. Buy a cheap o burner phone that you rarely use. Use your regular phone like normal. If you get in a wreck and the cop your burner phone, no need to tell him about the one in your pocket.

Government, even in a “democracy,” is a slow march to fascism. Periodically, it must be stopped by a revolution.

We’re about due now.

I live in Nevada, and I do NOT have any kind of cell phone or Blue Tooth.

Good luck searching me.

So the Democrats want illegals to have driver’s licenses just like native born Americans however NB citizens in Nevada have “given consent” for the police to seize all your private informant contained on your cell phone?

But they cannot ask the legal status of illegals?

Even George Orwell never dreamed of this dystopian nightmare!

A backup old used phone can be bought for 50 bucks.
Leave one in the glove box with screen lock active.

Nevada hasn't actually passed the law yet. That said, international travelers already have this problem. They maybe required to surrender their phone for inspection entering the US or other foreign countries. You might not want to travel around logged into your financial and social media accounts. Depending where you are going, it maybe best to just carry a clean phone.
