In order to protect workers’ rights in California, a bunch of liberals wanted many independent contractors to be reclassified as employees. The state Supreme Court ruled in favor of this. The intent of everyone involved was good.
But the results were disastrous. As is often the case with good intentions, there are “unintended consequences” which ended up hurting the very workers that the liberals had been trying to help.
This video is from the Sacramento affiliate of CBS News. It shows how all the employees of a small business ended up losing their jobs because liberals wanted to “help” them.

Leftism will screw up a wet dream. Sheesh. If they only had a functioning brain! Wait! Then they’d be even more dangerous...
Was it? A lot of the liberal rank and file is just stupid and shallow thinking. Most of the leadership is outright evil.
Like Obama, the California courts are simply freeing workers so they can have more options.
“A lot of the liberal rank and file is just stupid and shallow thinking. Most of the leadership is outright evil.”
Absolutely.
Seems like no one asked Hollywood bout this new law.
Actors—main players in any production are INDEPENDENT CONTRACTORS——NOT hourly employees.
Try to make this work in Hollywood. It won’t.
Also- Many ‘Consultants’ in any business are independent contractors. They DO NOT fit the framework of employees.
I have done bookkeeping since 19802 for a number of small businesses. They didn’t need a full time bookkeeper. They only needed the work done & kept up to date. some I went to weekly. Most I went to only monthly. One client was over 45 miles away & went there monthly. Did NOT charge for travel time ora minimum. Mostly took about 7 hours to do his work-—monthly.
I definately was NOT an employee. I got a 1099 from each of them at year end. Mostly, I was the one who prepared that 1099. I did have an office at my home. I did alot of work at home, but not all of it.
Good luck in proving that I was an employee-—or many other groups of people.
19802 s/b 1980.
