1) He is right in that these nations pose no threat to us. 2) Iran has been poking us in the eye for 38 years. We owe them a big punch in the nose. If they're in Syria I say take them out and let Israel get in a good hit while we're at it. Russia meeting with us/Israel + Iran protests make it an opportune time. Hezbollah is in Lebanon. No need for invasion/US troops. Just stir the pot. Buchannan is naive on this one. We can engage without being involved.
“Why cant we just take a breather for a few years, bring our boys and resources home to address the very serious problems her at home?”
Because the neoconartists are only happy when othr people are dying for their lame game of RISK. They haven’t won yet, so the game will go on.
“I am not advocating isolationism.
We are 21+ trillion in debt with another 90 or so trillion in unfunded liabilities...”

The various military and fiscal parasites and grifters we laughingly call “allies”, read that and think, “Well, those fools aren’t tapped out yet.”
Yeah let’s make sure Isis or a Sunni theocracy takes over Syria. Any other bright ideas from the state department this morning?
Anti-semite Assad? I know the state department is probably slow this morning but try to keep up, the Sunni Rebels are anti-semite to the nth degree. Syria actually had a small Jewish population and synagogues. Try that in Saudi Arabia. In Latakia a woman could bathe in the ocean in a bikini and drink a locally brewed beer afterwards. Assad is not the monster you’re making him out to be.
Say whatever you like, but there is no case that modern problems in the Middle East root cause the Middle east was the British Empire. They created Israel, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Iraq, Iran, overthrew a decent dude in Iran and installed a monarch. Created israel, etc.
The Brits are evil.
That’s that there is no case the problems were NOT caused by the British Empire in the aftermath of WWI, thru WWII, and into the 1950s.
Assad may be the best we can hope for in Syria. And all those that had to leave. Find a way to repatriate them. Just attack the Iranians there. We got away with the Russian contractors-300 of them.
Criticize Churchill and FDR all you want, but his comments on the Holocaust are appalling.
Pat used to be pro Irael and anti Arab until his support of Nazi war criminals and his anger over the Auschwitz controversy (the Carmelite nuns).
The times Pat Buchanan has been right about anything is a rare event.
Oh, wait a minute ...
Russia is the birthplace of modern terrorism, with 19th century Russian nihilists and secret societies advocating a violent overthrow of Tsarist rule.
Yasser Arafat, a founder of the Palestinian Fatah movement and future head of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and Palestinian Authority (PA), received KGB training in east Moscow in the early 1960s.
According to The World Was Going Our Way: The KGB and the Battle for the Third World, a book by historian Christopher Andrew and the KGB operative turned defector Vasili Mitrokhin, the unexpected surge of international terrorism in the early 1970s coupled with the successful backing of Sandinista guerrillas in Latin America encouraged Moscow to consider the use of Palestinian terrorists as proxies in the Middle East and Europe.
These groups, such as the Japanese Red Army, Italys Red Brigades, the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP) and various German organizations all shared Marxist philosophies, a hatred of America and solidarity with the Palestinians, Lockwood notes. On the latter point, the analyst pointed out: Palestinian groups were enthusiastic participants in Soviet terror largesse.
This went hand in glove with the USSRs propaganda campaign to tar Zionism, the belief in Jewish self-determination, as racism; a tool, it was said, of Western colonialist oppression.
Together, communist-backed terrorist groups pioneered airplane hijackings and the purposeful targeting including mass murder of civilians. Indeed, General Alexander Sakharovsky, who headed the KGBs First Chief Directorate that oversaw operations abroad, bragged in 1971: Airplane hijacking is my own invention.
