1) He is right in that these nations pose no threat to us. 2) Iran has been poking us in the eye for 38 years. We owe them a big punch in the nose. If they're in Syria I say take them out and let Israel get in a good hit while we're at it. Russia meeting with us/Israel + Iran protests make it an opportune time. Hezbollah is in Lebanon. No need for invasion/US troops. Just stir the pot. Buchannan is naive on this one. We can engage without being involved.
He should move to Russia.

...we must avoid war with militant Islam, lest we find ourselves at war with all Islam, President Bush is surely right...
...What we must avoid is a war of faiths, a war of civilizations between Islam and America. And those who propagandize for such a war are the unwitting or willful collaborators of Osama bin Laden...
Folks like Buchanan claim they are anti NeoCon empire until its Putin building his. Then its ok.
Hypocrisy at its finest.
Why can’t we just take a breather for a few years, bring our boys and resources home to address the very serious problems her at home?
Wasn’t that what President Trump wanted to do from the beginning?
With the money we’ve wasted around the world we could have already had a first class infrastructure, including shoring up the electric grid that everyone says is so vulnerable.
The US could be totally energy independent with known oil/gas reserves until we adopt widespread use of extremely cheap, clean, abundant Thorium energy.
Return America to once again be the land of the free; the home of the brave. Let the rest of the world stand on their own two feet for a change.
Buchanan is many things, but on this he’s right.
While we do owe Iran a bloody nose, it shouldn’t be Trump who delivers it.
The best thing we can do is undermine the mullahs, and let the people of Iran fix their own problem(s). We should be supporting the pro-western factions in Iran, but we, under no circumstances should consider putting boots on the ground there.
Buchanan also liked the Iran Nuke Deal and based on his past comments on the Holy Land, likely thinks Israel is not entitled to the whole of Jerusalem.
If Israel attacks Iran, Teheran is thermonuclear toast. That would leave millions who up till now are anti-govt with a firm determination to wipe out Israel. There are poor man’s WMD, especially anthrax for those who dont care if they die. Not pretty.
I see both sides on this one. So why do I criticize Buchannan, one of a fewwhom I respect the most? I see an opportunity presenting itself and we should take advantage of it. Trump was tired of us getting pushed around when Pat was blaming the Jews. THEN there’s his VP candidate in the Reform Party run. Didn’t think he was like the rest of them until I saw this need to stay relevant. Still he’s a good guy to have around.
In that same vein, I also wonder if Mr. Buchanan thinks we should foot the bill for hero anti-Semite Assad, to rebuild Syria as the Russians want us to do - ‘cause Putin can’t afford it.
As I said, these thinkers NeoCon when it suits them. Through and through.
We should make sure they want to socially share their good works with the oppressed people in Iran, and call the effort "Operation Jimmah Carter".
If we hit a snag, we can send a thousand or so American Advisors to make sure the operation goes smoothly.
While we’re there, they hate us. When we’re not, they hate each other. So I don’t see why we can’t divest ourselves from entanglements in the Mideast and let them all go back to tearing one another apart.
Isolationism isn’t the answer. We are big, rich and strong enough to walk and chew gum at the same time. No Islamic state should be allowed to grow big enough to threaten us later. We should pick one dictator a year and take him out. Start with Maduro and then move on to Raul Castro, Ortega, the Shiite mullahs and various Sunni madmen.
Pat Buchanan is well past the point of usefulness.
Buchanan claims to be anti-Neocon, anti-empire, except when Putin'a building it, and yer WE must cede to Russian demands and foot THEIR bill. (As they've requested we do in Syria.)
Buchanan claims to be pro-sovereignty, except if you're Israel of course.
Buchanan claims white people's rights everywhere are being violated, but Ukrainian Christians aren't white and are no better than Jews and to suggest otherwise makes you the equivalent to George Soros.
And WWII should have never been fought.
Hypocrisy AND idiocy at its finest.
America has allied with anti-Semite Saudi, Qatar for nearly thirty years.
Sanctimonious neocons have got a lot to learn from their liberal partners about how to brandish PC cudgel.
There is no compelling reason for the U.S. to be meddling with Iran. I voted for Donald Trump because I’m sick of living in a country run by Sunni Muslims named Bush, Clinton and McCain.
Pat isn’t an anti-Semite but is anti-Israel.
Not sure exactly why but he has been this way for a very long time.
I am not advocating isolationism.
We are 21+ trillion in debt with another 90 or so trillion in unfunded liabilities. Supposedly our electric grid is very vulnerable and very expensive to shore up. The President has long said our infrastructure is crumbling and old.
The communists are still well entrenched within all levels of government and education.
Our boys are still dying in the ME for nobody knows what anymore.
The President himself said as much from day one? Do you consider President Trump an isolationist?
You are sounding like the NeoCon globalists who drum up this false choice: either unfettered intrusion in the world’s affairs, or the kind of isolationism Red China had prior to WWII.
You know, or should know, this is not what I’m saying.
Except we are broke. Our nat debt goes higher and higher every day.
