PAT BUCHANAN IS WRONG ON IRAN/MID-EAST

Posted on 08/05/2018 6:25:38 AM PDT by DIRTYSECRET

1) He is right in that these nations pose no threat to us. 2) Iran has been poking us in the eye for 38 years. We owe them a big punch in the nose. If they're in Syria I say take them out and let Israel get in a good hit while we're at it. Russia meeting with us/Israel + Iran protests make it an opportune time. Hezbollah is in Lebanon. No need for invasion/US troops. Just stir the pot. Buchannan is naive on this one. We can engage without being involved.

Zathras, the KGB and Soviet Union did more to mess up the Middle East than the British Empire and they bred jihadists who have never even opened a Koran with all their propaganda against Zionism and ‘world Jewry’ (like the Soviet-authored ‘Protocols of the Elders of Zion - millions translated into Arabic) and puppet informants they sent to places liks Syria. Please research this. Lots of good scholarly work avail online. Blessings.

Anything we do to get them to tear each other apart would be good in my view. Independent Kurdistan. Break up Pakistan for Pashutans. Lybia under another Khadafy. Any more?

...we must avoid war with militant Islam, lest we find ourselves at war with all Islam, President Bush is surely right...

...What we must avoid is a war of faiths, a war of civilizations between Islam and America. And those who propagandize for such a war are the unwitting or willful collaborators of Osama bin Laden...

Happen to agree wholeheartedly.

Well, it's hard to win such a war if one side has no faith, which is one strategic reason to avoid it if possible.

We will be deep in debt regardless of whether or not we deal with the enemies of Christianity and Western civilization.

You can run but you can’t hide.

As if the side of Western Civilization and Christianity could make the choice on its own!

Iran is a threat to us. Syria isn’t.

There is no compelling reason for the U.S. to be meddling with Iran.

There is one big reason. If Iran gets nukes, Saudi Arabia will get nukes too. Do you believe it is a good idea? Even if you for some reason believe that Shiite Muslims are reasonable, the fact that the unreasonable Sunni Muslims in Saudi Arabia will have nukes should give you a pause.

.. as if, yep

But the West can lay down and bare its neck by importing and supporting its enemies as a forward force. See Europe. Or, our Democratic Socialists.

That was the cold war. Both sides resorted to dirty tricks.

In 1953 Iran coup detat, CIA and British intelligence tried to spread rumor accusing Iranian PM Mossaddegh of being a descendant of Jew.

Any country with half a brain is looking to develop nuclear weapons. Saudi Arabia would be doing this regardless of what Iran does.

SA paid for the Pakistan nuclear program and thus almost certainly already has nukes...

I agree completely. It may be that because of Clinton’s perfidy, the genie is already out of the bottle. But if Iran gets nukes, not only Saudi, but I could believe Brazil, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan......

Your history for what set the stage in the region is not going back far enough. Before there was Bashar Al Assad for example, there was his father Hafez...who was a huge Cold War headache. And that’s just Syria!

I am not saying our country is blameless, but there was a whole lot of darkness and evil in the Middle East which the Soviet Union had much to do with feeding and spreading, including militarily. And Putin is only following precedent and reviving old ties.

Thankfully though due to the repatriation of so many Jews from the former Soviet space to Israel, there is only so far he can go as far as messing up the Holy Land goes before violating his own national self-interest...but thanks to Trump, it is Netanyahu now that calls the shots with the upperhand. Before that, Bibi had to tiptoe around Vlad.

We are talking about Muslim countries here. Orthodox Islam is a death cult. Give them nukes and they won’t hesitate to use them. The Cold War with the Soviet Union did not change into a hot war because the Soviet leaders, being atheist, valued their earthly lives. Muslims aren’t afraid to die for Islam.

Do you think Muslims won’t use their nukes against the West if they are able to? Or against Israel? Don’t you think it would be better to stop Iran with economic sanctions? You are forcing Israel to bomb the Iranian nuclear facilities, which is a very difficult task due to the distance.

And Israel was OK with that? I know they are allies of sort against Iran now, but it wasn’t always a case. What kind of assurances did the US give Israel as to the supposed Saudi Arabian nukes to stop Israel from destroying them?
