The head of the Russian Lower House Committee for Eurasian Integration says the recent proposal to split Russia into several parts, voiced by a Latvian MP, is proof of NATOs hostile plans. MP Leonid Kalashnikov (Communist Party) told RIA Novosti on Monday that the statement by the Latvian MP Aleksandrs Kirsteins clearly demonstrated that Russian concern over NATO bases in Baltic countries was justified. The comments came shortly after Kirsteins wrote on his Twitter feed that the end of military conflicts and the guarantee of a peaceful life in Europe was possible only if Russia is divided into several small countries.
We should not be shy, we should offer tough resistance. Resistance not even to such statements but rather the danger of our country being split up that arises after them, said Kalashnikov. The Russian lawmaker also noted that the call to split up Russia clearly contradicted earlier assurances from Western nations that they have no intention of capturing Russian territory and breaking it into parts. He went on to say that its important for Russia to counter NATOs aggressive plans and not simply trust assurances from aggressive nations.
According to Russian Defense Ministry reports, the first half of 2018 saw NATO conduct 13 large-scale military exercises involving more than 40,000 servicemen and 2000 units of combat hardware near the blocs south-western borders. Russia maintained the same military strength on the contact line with NATO, but had to increase their combat ability through more intensive training and the introduction of new, more effective weapons.
Last week Russian defense chief Sergey Shoigu told an assembly of senior generals and officers that NATO countries have never stopped carrying out actions aimed at preventing Russia from becoming an independent player in international politics and geopolitical competitors to the nations of the Western military bloc. He also accused NATO of using all spheres of human activity such as politics, economics and even culture and sports to impose its anti-Russian agenda on as many people as possible.
It does give a view from the Russian perspective.
Classic case of psychological projection as usual.
As wiki puts it:
Psychological projection is a theory in psychology in which the human ego defends itself against unconscious impulses or qualities (both positive and negative) by denying their existence in themselves while attributing them to others.
For example, a person who is habitually intolerant may constantly accuse other people of being intolerant. It incorporates blame shifting.
How would we feel about some hostile foreign legislator suggesting the US be broken up into individual states because we’re too dangerous to them united?
Shoigu and company are trying to shift focus off Russia’s own aggressive posture and childish antics in the region...the Baltic states are fiercely defensive of their sovereignty. Literally and symbolically.
Meanwhile Putin and Russian media air mock nuclear attacks on TV for fun.
Well if 0bama was in office he would probably apologize.

I don’t think any American in a position of responsibility has suggested that this is a good pretext for conquering and annexing Mexico. But Russians are using this factual statement, given Russia’s 600-year record of expansion from a small kingdom on the banks of the Volga, to justify the conquest and annexation of the Baltic states. In other words, this is just another iteration of the Russian mindset for the last half-millennium. The Russian state is nature writ large, red in tooth and claw.
2 of the Baltic states don’t even meet the NATO alliance goal of spending at least 2% of their gross domestic product on defense. They appear to me not be too serious about defending their sovereignty, unless they can get us pay for it.
What’s a Latvia? Isn’t it some kind of cat? I think we are being hoaxed here.
I fought against soviet communism. Directly.
But too many people on this forum still have their heads stuck in 1970. I see stupid comments like ‘never trust a Russian’.
If Russia wanted the Baltic states they could take them completely in a week and that would be the end of the matter. Might be a risky move with Trump in office but they could have done it with no repercussions when Obama was prez.
Russia has excellent to good justification for the actions they have taken in the Crimea, Ukraine, and Georgia.
And please point me to what government official in Russia is suggesting provocative statements by this idiot Latvian justifies war?
Ya’lls knees keep jerking like some hippie in 1969....
It is not about communism or even the military any more, but not all is well with Russia from the inside...and so long as Mr. Putin and his crony globalist oligarchs remain in power, they are bad news.
No such member of the parliament of Latvia.

Nor a Latvia member of the EU parliament.
I call fake.
This is just one more thing that is scaring Putin into drowning himself even more with vodka, along with being squeezed by the events unfolding by the minute in the Middle East / Israel, such as the new Israel Stateship Law passed in the Knesset.
Who ends up destroying Damascus at this point is the subject of many educated guesses, but I’d bet Amir Tsarfati pegs it first. The dominoes to Ezekiel 38-39 will fall shortly afterward.
You wouldn't even have to leave western Europe to find elected leaders advocating for radical change in the United States...the Mayor of London comes to mind.
In fact recent polls suggest western Europe deems the United States a destabilizing threat.
How many American soldiers lives is Russia responsible for as opposed to Germany and Japan. I wonder how those who died in those wars would feel about our current cozy relations with both those countries.

That would be him.

That’s a pretty strong assertion that comes across as anti-Russian prejudice and paranoia. What you got to back that up?
