If you went to school, earned a bachelors or master’s degree, yet were being turned down for jobs you are qualified for because of the way you look or talk, how would you feel? How would you feel if this was happening to your spouse or your children?

You’d be infuriated, right?

There are thousands of transgender men and woman who face this situation with most job applications they submit.

Transgender people are over “four times more likely than the general population to have a household income under $10,000,” even though 47% of them, more than the general population, have either a college or graduate degree. Likewise, there are more financial advisors over the age of 50 today than all financial advisors combined currently in their 20s and 30s, and 40% of those advisors over 50 expect to retire in the next 10 years....

What's to stop a normal person from hinting around that they're "transgendered" when they're at an interview that is obviously going south? I wouldn't think it'd be considered fraud if you never came out and said it. Wasn't there a movie about a fake gay couple trying to get health benefits or some such?

“Because of the way they look or talk” implies that those things are innate and incidental. It really doesn’t apply to those that intentionally disfigure themselves, make themselves look sick or deranged, or otherwise run up the freak flag and swing from it.

Who would be surprised if their progeny found it hard to get a job if they showed up looking or talking like the Joker, or tatted like Charles Manson?

In order to be a good salesman, you have to appear not just normal, but superior. A handsome guy in an expensive suit can persuade customers to buy a deferred annuity with smooth talk. He may actually be as nutty as a fruitcake, but if he looks good and talks good, he will make sales.

"College or graduate degrees" just don't carry as much weight with employers as they used to. Everybody has them. Employers are using looking for people with knowledge, intelligence and a mouth that isn't flowing liberal BS all of the time.

Hell, I went through this crap when I got out of college... in 1977! My "problem" was that I was a white heterosexual male. I had female classmates that I was TUTORING get second interviews and job offers at the same places I was "politely" turned down.

Never pursued any kind of legal remedy, since there were plenty of jobs in my profession then, and reverse discrimination was not considered a real problem then. Or now, come to think of it.
