McCain Switching Parties?

Posted on 05/07/2018 6:38:28 AM PDT by DIRTYSECRET

The subject/idea has come up here. He croaks as a Democrat and the Governor has to lawfully choose a successor in the same party. Hard to believe but 2 can play this game. Sheriff Joe switches parties NOW with the idea that he'll be ahead of the game. Why Arpaio? It demonstrates the absurdity of the game and the process. As I understand it if McLame croaks after May 21 the appointed successor gets the seat for 2 and a half years. Hopefully the MD gets it without a fight and McSally(McLame) wins gets the nomination for the other seat. We need both of them my friends even if McSally is not one of us. Let Trump deal with her if she crosses him or the party.

He is not of sound mind and body. The people could argue he was unduly influenced while under medication.

Death bed conversion? :)

I’ve seen him as a democrat for decades. It’s why I was spitting nails in 2008.

I thought this too but I think the AZ law states that the Governor must pick someone from the party the person belonged to when they were elected. Meaning McTraitor can switch but it won’t matter we keep the seat.

The Governor can appoint a replacement from either party. He is NOT bound to appoint someone of the same party as Mc Cain.

You are only partially correct. The replacement must be of same party but only served until the election which could be the upcoming if he dies now or a special

Two things:

It’s May 31st & not May 21st.

And MCSALLY IS A ‘FLAKE’ if you catch my drift.

Several states in the past five years have flipped the rule and said that it has to be from the same party. I expect more states to do it in the future. In this case, I still think the AZ governor will appoint himself.

You folks are all over the place. So is the written law. It’s gobbledygook. Perfect setup if you’re a Democrat. At this rate we’ll lose both seats if they’re both up in November. Congrats.

Sorry, the Arizona law is pretty clear on these facts.

If the law was clear you could at least explain it adequately. The others were not convincing either.

Not true:

C. For a vacancy in the office of United States senator, the governor shall appoint a person to fill the vacancy. That appointee shall be of the same political party as the person vacating the office and shall serve until the person elected at the next general election is qualified and assumes office. If the person vacating the office changed political party affiliations after taking office, the person who is appointed to fill the vacancy shall be of the same political party that the vacating officeholder was when the vacating officeholder was elected or appointed to that office.

For McCain, betrayal is the default, as he is a traitor to the core.
