Today is the day for conservatives to make themselves heard. (or, um... actually NOT heard)
Staying off Facebook Hits them in the pocketbook, because they get paid for 'clicks' and 'eyeballs'
Any page you go to makes them money from their advertisers, in real time. (unlike TV and radio ads, that they buy in advance)
JimRob is missing a huge opportunity here. FreeRepublic should have been as big as FB, because it does essentially the same thing.
Jim should have been the billionaire AND made conservative voice as powerful as FB (and don't be mistaken, FB is powerful)
We LIKE capitalism here, Jim. Take ads, make money, make sure we don't lose this voice. Hire me and Laz to build the site bigger.
If FR did not exist, Dan Rather would still be on TV be saying bad things about Trump.
I’m in.
I just posted on Whats on your mind that is was Boycott Facebook Day for conservatives and that I would see them on teapartycommunity.com.
Oh, yeah, and I said, AMF, Facebook!
I boycott it everyday. I post and repost Conservative ideas and use special tricks to make sure they get seen.
Those far younger than me have pointed out that the questions of the Senators Tuesday were very naive. Those old Senators have no clue about FaceBook, as I don’t. And apparently, those old Senators did not ask anyone knowledgeable in the younger crowd about what questions to ask to get at what is really happening at FB.
Hopefully, someone in the House Committee is better prepared.
I can’t boycott facebook specifically today because I have never used it and never will.
I have seriously cut back on FB, only posting rarely and deleting old posts.
What angers me is that they are covering up the fact that they helped Obama like a lapdog.
Never create an account. Once you give them your information, they have it for all time.
I will not go to it today.
I shared to others . Off last night before midnight.
You can give them information if you want to be served with relevant content. Or not.
I feel much the same way as you do, that was an excellent choice, Mr. K.
It is important for me to state that the post that follows this is not directed at you, Mr. K, because I thought the way that you worded that was completely respectful, and touted the benefits and advantages of a forum like Free Republic instead of tearing down individually those who patronize another product. I hope that is clear.
Full disclosure: I do not, and have never used Facebook, and I don’t want to denigrate those who do. I view these things as personal choices, and everyone fights their battles where and how they see fit.
It is getting to be a daily occurrence for me, it seems.
I drank up to 12 cokes a day for decades and also ate General Mills products on a daily basis, but the open embrace and advocacy of the homosexual movement by both Coca Cola and General Mills has prompted me to completely stop using their products.
I have notified Bank of America last night I am beginning proceedings to close out my accounts I have had for nearly forty years with them due to their vilification of the firearms industry and decision to stop doing business with them.
I stopped watching all television and consumption of general media nearly 20 years ago due to my disgust at their open partisanship and embrace of things I despise and detest.
But these are all my choices. Those may not be the same choices other people may feel the need to make. And so it is with Facebook.
This is easy for me, because...I don’t use Facebook, Snapchat, Twitter, or any other social media. I tend to view them as narcissistic the way many (though not all) people use it. I readily recognize that there are many non-narcissistic uses of those things that are perfectly legitimate, and may be critical for some to do business.
So it is easy for me to “give up” Facebook. The same way it is easy for those who never watch NFL football to “give it up”.
I am dismayed by people who demonize those who don’t make the same personal choices they do, and they do that right here on Free Republic. I abhor that groupthink mentality, which I see primarily as a liberal trait.
That is both a strength and weakness.
We have strength in our individuality and respect for individual rights, but that often places us at a disadvantage with Leftists to whom collective groupthink and behavior are in the very air they breathe. We need to learn how to maintain our individuality while finding ways to act collectively when necessary.
And part of that means we must learn to accept it when fellow conservatives need to follow their own path. We can suggest, but need to remember there is value in staying together when our paths may diverge on a given subject.
“What angers me is that they are covering up the fact that they helped Obama like a lapdog.”
It angers me, too, that John Kennedy didn’t bring that up when he was questioning MZ. On Tucker last night he said he had wanted to, but didn’t have time. He was spending too much time being cute, clever, and saying “it sucks” to ask the important questions.
“I have notified Bank of America last night I am beginning proceedings to close out my accounts”
We had that same conversation with Citi this week for the same reason. It’s officially over between us and them.
I had a kind of funny experience.
From day one, I was repelled by Facebook (just not my cup of tea) but was getting hounded repeatedly by my friends and associates to open an account, but...I simply did not want to do it.
I found out someone opened a Facebook account on my behalf called: “Where is rlmorel?”
I’ve never seen it...:)
I hate this. Hate it. But I feel they have made their choices, and I have to make mine.
I am sure they won’t miss me, they have trillions of dollars in assets.
But my money is mine.
I don’t use Facebook - If I did I’d already be boycotting it.
Every day is boycott Facebook day for me.
I also don't store anything in the cloud - I have separate hard drives for backing up important data (like -shudder- tax stuff) and family photos - the number of which I've lost count, but is in excess of 1 TB.
I jumped on facebook this morning and all of a sudden a lot of conservative stuff is coming up. I am active on Twitter insofar as all the conservative postings. Wonder where fb got my conservative leanings because I never put anything political on fb I have too many haters on that so I stay away from politics there. I dont want to get into pizzing contests with relatives. Hmm.
I’m not techno savy. I know my computer had a cloud. I have no idea what it’s doing. I probably need to go take a computer class, but they change stuff so fast, and it’s hard for me to remember new techno stuff.
