Facebook is failing, and I can’t say I am sorry about that. Facebook’s security chief is leaving the company after clashes over Russian disinformation – so sad to hear. However, karma will get you every time.
Facebook’s reaction to a year of scandal has gone from defensive cluelessness and aloof silence. Users, or most of the users I know, don’t have a clue. But some users are getting the message that information they post on Facebook can be used in ways they did not intend, and usage is starting to decline. I quit Facebook a long time ago, as they were censoring me then.
Meanwhile, executives are selling shares like crazy, including a plan by Mark Zuckerberg to sell almost $13 billion worth of shares by mid-2019. So that is one big clue – get ready for a big Facebook fail. In reality, they have focused on destroying Alt-Right – now it is coming back to haunt them.

The amazing thing here is that most everything about Facebook by 2008, was laying out the path for massive usage of private data to affect elections and public opinion. You could see that being done in north African countries, and throughout the Middle East. You could see the applications being applied in 2011/2012 Russian elections.
So while they were busy manipulating the data....they never realized that other players were also looking at the data and going in the other direction.
To some degree (I certainly won’t give it more than 50-percent of the credit), Trump is President because of social media use. But the thing is....Hillary could have used the data as well, and we may find out in a month or two....that she also had such a company working on her social media crowd.
So now what? Will they legislate Facebook into a corner? Will the Facebook board terminate Zuckerberg as CEO and just make it an adviser? I’m of the mind for the whole political season of 2020....I will log out and refuse to use any social media for that entire period.
Zucker needs to be in jail, and FB fined 30 billion, and the money redistributed to Republicans.
I hate Facebook and I hope it dies.
Investors? People invest in Facebook? How does Facebook make money? Oh, yeah they sell data. To the government, it’s free.
IMO, anyone who puts their essential information on the internet is stupid, naive, or both. I saw a video of my ex-girlfriend dumping a bucket of water over her head on FB and never logged in again.

While my Facebook friends know I am conservative, I have never gone there to promote my political views. These days I am mainly there to see what my family is up to, especially my grandchildren, or to promote my history podcast.
I gave up Facebook for Lent. Not sure I’ll go back.
I propose that Hillary did not campaign in contested states and districts because she mistakenly believed that Obama’s Facebook analytics would Get out The Vote for her and win those districts.
For some reason Obama’s Facebook Team did follow through and Hillary lost. She chose wrong. Now Obama and Valjar and the deep state are battling PDJT for the American soul. My 2 cents.

There are some examples of what you say, and I think it’s just one issue of forty-odd screw-ups that took votes away from her.
I remember from spring of 2016, some journalists talking up the hyped-up nature of the social media usage by the pro-Hillary crowd. I do agree...in metropolitan/urbanized areas, it probably did help. Her problem was that the social media message didn’t work in smaller towns or rural areas.
I’m also not betting much on this whole social media thing affecting much of Trump’s vote. Maybe nation-wide, there’s a million pro-Trump votes triggered by this social media gimmick.
The other side of this discussion is that newspapers are rapidly losing any connection to their readers or the states that they serve. Hillary had just about every single major paper in the country side with her. It didn’t really help or matter. Meanwhile, the newspaper burned through public support and find themselves as barely read by the general public and in serious financial woes.
Facebook failing, going bankrupt, and closing the company and web site down would be a positive for our country.
