I don’t like listening to the discussions because it upsets me how behind our program got these past few presidential administrations. We should be way ahead of China/Russia by now. I’m sure astronauts from every country are good and lovely people, but it’s sad that governments with such anti-American sentiments have that much pull in space.
Obama purposely destroyed our space program and reallocated NASA funds to sjw activities
Billionaires don’t get that way being dumb. Probably sure they won’t make it back.
Infuriating. Space travel would inspire and unite the country. It transcends race/class all that jazz.
I’ll bet they will be able to do it for MUCH less on Space-X. Maybe even eventually om Virgin Galactic.
If she brings her own spacesuit, I'm in...
1000 bucks!
HILLARY!!
We need a Good Fund Me for this one.
Cankles in orbit...
Oops.
Sorry Bill.

More than the past few - the US program went off the rails back near the beginning with the cancellation of Project Orion in 1964, which began in 1958 (Government interagency infighting, NASA Apollo conflict, perceived treaty obligations, lack of political leadership. ...the first time in modern history that a major expansion of human technology has been suppressed for political reasons. - Freeman Dyson.) Their motto was Mars by 1965, Saturn by 1970.
We would have explored the entire solar system by now as well as some of the nearby stars. but as you can see from the latest turns in the present or recent programs there has again been a massive failure of political will; until that changes, if ever, space will be for other nations - not the US.
There are many on FR who demonstrate this failure of will, who consider space exploration a waste of money, money they claim we do not have which can be better used for feeding the poor, curing the sick and so forth ad nauseam.
There are a number of youtube videos on the subject in case you are interested in learning what we lost.
All I know is we stopped going to the moon...around Nixon time? I think the Vietnam fall out and post 60s-craziness warped things a bit for the country.
Also the later accidents with the Challenger, Columbia, etc...
:( I don’t want to dwell on the past missed opportunities. I’m also awful in that I don’t like “sharing” outer space haha (until we do whatever it is first.) I’ve turned into a bit of a “Cold Warrior” these days haha.
NASA will be ready for a first manned flight perhaps by 2023. Can’t have competing systems beating their entry in the race by years. Create a handicapping to level the field?

Good stuff!
To be specific, muslim outreach.

While the first sentence that is certainly true, the ‘warp’ occurred prior to Nam, as I tried to point out. By the Challenger, Columbia disasters the US had long vacated any vanguard in manned exploration.
As for the second sentence, I’m not sure what that means.
The Apollo program was canceled in 1972 with Apollo 17. Nixon was president.
SpaceX should offer them for $10mil
Yes. By sharing outer space: I mean with countries led by anti-American regimes.
Whatever happens in space, I would want the U.S. to be the undisputed leaders.

Well you are one of the first on FR with a positive view of manned exploration. Most are negative or hohum types. The problem we have is that whenever one administration announces a program, the next reduces or eliminates it.
What we need is a national, not a party, goal to explore space, one that cannot be easily altered on some political whim of the moment.
However, the obstacles to overcome are huge. All the many advances in science, living standards, tech like cell phones, computers, medical devices - all originated as a result of the US manned space program. But that was so long ago, many just assume that those things always existed and just came about for unknown reasons. Basically it a problem in overcoming ignorance and in some cases willful ignorance.
I have no suggestions, just pointing out some of the problems.
LBJ hated seeing all those funds allocated for NASA
that could have gone for the Great Society.
Well Pence and Trump seem to be very pro-space. As are Gen McMaster and others. So we shall see...SpaceX seems to excite people.
Actually I had never heard of Elon Musk until a Russian friend told me about him. Musk is even more pooular there than here.
Hopefully we will shift course and MAGA.
