Crouching Mongoose and Hidden Cobra Kung-Fu

It's a battle classic between a mongoose and a king cobra.

The Indian grey mongoose is well known for battling cobras in the wild, but their combat melee rarely plays out for people to see.
But when a cobra on a road in this video at an unknown place, this real-life crouching mongoose wastes no time in confronting the deadly snake in a kung-fu duel.

The mongoose quickness dodges the snake’s strikes and counters with some bites of his own on the cobra.
It appears the cobra kung-fu lands some strikes (bites) to the mongoose. What makes the grey mongoose resistant to the snake venom is its thick coat and acetylcholine receptors.

In this brief fierce skirmish, the mongoose (kung-fu master) takes down the snake with a bite to the head to end it.
The mongoose quickly drags the snake off into the forest back to his trophy room. On the bright side its nature way of keeping things in balance. For the locals, they’re probably grateful for removing dangerous snake and getting a little entertainment out of it. See the full Crouching Mongoose and Hidden Cobra Kung-Fu footage here.

I saw a documentary about this classic battle, and they said it is almost never even a battle. The mongoose will win nearly every time.

The snake has no staying power, and after a few strikes, which the mongoose is well equipped to evade, the snake begins to slow down, and the mongoose takes a nip here, slower strike, another nip there, slower strike, then...boom.

The cobra is a meal.

Watching it reminded me of a bunch of hyenas picking at a lion, except...one mongoose is quick enough to serve as its own band of hyenas to a cobra!

Aw, the poor snake was trying to leave, arrest that mongoose for assault & battery! /s

I wonder how many of the younger folk, post-1980s, will, upon see this, think of Rudyard Kipling's "Rikki-Tikki-Tavi" short story (1894). The multiculturalism and politically correct disease that has led to the almost complete ostracizing of Kipling, Nobel Prize for Literature, remains a burning hate for me. From Tommy to Kim to Captains Courageous, he is a great one to read (Project Gutenberg [FREE]).

That’s a cobra (can’t make out the species) but that’s not a king cobra.

The mongoose has one of the quickest reaction times of any animal, it takes the mongoose 1/1.000 of a second to react to the Cobra lunging for a strike. Like Neo in the Matrix. The Cobra is prey , not much a battle 999 out of 1000 times.

Yes. True.

My point was that the snake in the video is NOT a king cobra, as the article erroneously claims. It's probably an Indian cobra, but I can't tell for sure.

Like Neo in the Matrix.

Like Trump in Russia-Gate.

Although few realize it, Trump is waiting for the ties to Hillary AND Hussein Obama to be made. It is NOT a fair fight but Hussein and Hillary aren't smart enough to realize it.

Love Kipling!

Recessional, Gods of the Copybook Headings, The Grave of the Hundred Head, The Taking of Lungtungpen, Dane-Geld, too many to list, he saw into and wrote of the hearts of men in a way few could.

In the 70’s my folks went to one of the Islands for a vacation. One day they were out on the golf course and a 3-foot long animal ran across the fairway that they didn’t recognize. After the round they were in the Pro Shop and saw some wood sculptures of the animal. They asked the vendor what the animal was and were told it was the ‘country’s animal’, the mongoose.

My Dad, raised on Riki Tiki Tavi being a David and Goliath story was flabbergasted. Not only was the mongoose faster than the Cobra, but Bigger too! He said from then on he rooted for the Cobra . . .

Free Republic should ban articles from J Hines - Am Shooting Journal. They are consistently incorrect to the point of stupidity, the grammar reeks of Chinese junk mail, the punctuation is as accurately placed as a NoKo missile, and the spelling would force a third-grader to stay after school.

For those of you about to flame, I didn’t realize the article was from ASJ until I clicked on it. The minute I started reading it was clear (if that word can be used in a sentence about ASJ) it was another garbage story. I will make sure not to click on any other ASJ “articles” posted here in the future.

That cobra strike is relatively slow.
Bet the mongoose wouldn’t fair so well against a fast striker, ie, some vipers , death adder, black mamba.
