There is no way to make it right. The accuser should pay a huge cash penalty to the innocent person and then work for a number of years in the rescue of victims of international sex slavers or other help for real victims.
If you are intentionally lying about sexual assault, you are intending to rob someone of a portion of their life they will never get back.
Minimum mandatory 5 to 10 years, no parole and mandatory probation, monitoring and counseling afterwards.
The same as for the person rightfully convicted of the crime. No exceptions. No weepy-face letting the liar go free. JAIL.

I tend to agree. The problem I see would be, if there was not enough evidence to convict someone of rape, how would there be enough evidence to prove the accusation as “faulty”? Can’t have it both ways. Tough to prove either way if it is only a “hear say” accusation.
The same sentence a rapist would get.

Agreed, your point is valid, but...there are certainly cases where this would not be the case, and it is undeniably a false accusation.
This would apply to those cases, IMO.

I’ll admit I was tempted.
But I couldn’t get past his breath.
That's why I favor a three outcome system at trial: Guilty- you did it and we proved it; Not Guilty- It looks like you did it but we failed to prove it; Innocent- You did not do it and that has been proven.
An innocent verdict should subject the false accuser to the punishment.
when victims, witnesses, cops and DAs lie or withhold evidence they should be imprisoned for the length of time the accused would have served if found guilty, up to an including the death penalty.
Hammurabi figured this out about 1760 B.C.
