They help women move – literally – out of abusive relationships. For free.

“He’s coming home tomorrow afternoon; now’s my chance to get out. Will you help me?”

Telephone pleas like that 20 years ago prompted Meathead Movers to help women move — literally — out of abusive relationships. After a move in Morro Bay turned into a confrontational situation because the abuser showed up, brothers Aaron and Evan Steed approached the Women’s Shelter of San Luis Obispo County to set up the moves for them, so that they could continue to offer their free services more safely.

Today the San Luis Obispo-based company offers unlimited moving services to seven domestic violence shelters throughout Central and Southern California.

This is a wonderful service. I heard about it this morning and was inspired to share it.

Do they help abused men move? Or are they just sexist pigs?

I’m just saying . . .

More than 50 years ago a kind lady, with her husband’s support, helped my mother and me leave my abusive father. On the day of my mother’s funeral, and a few years before they passed away, I went to them and thanked them for helping us. The gentleman, a WWII vet, said “We didn’t do anything anybody else wouldn’t have done.”

I said “Well, nobody else did.”. Not long ago I wrote the story and shared it with the couples’ family including some great grandchildren who never had the privilege of knowing them.

These two brothers are doing God’s work.

There are battered men, but only a small percentage of DV victims in male-female relationships are the males.

They also fail to report far more often than women, becoming their own worst enemies. It’s a guy thing.

The disparity of force issues are also at issue making domestic battering a much less serious problem for men.

The most recent CDC data show that 55% of women slaughtered every year in the US are killed by intimate partners.

Nobody should argue against helping a battered husband. But, this horrific problem affects far more women and it’s getting worse.

Bless that moving company. A woman trying to flee an abuser is seven times more likely to be killed than any other time in the relationship.

Totally agree. I’ve done this a few times. It’s nerve wracking as you never know when a violent confrontation is going to explode.

Yes, sometimes the woman is the one causing the problem. Safety is the key factor.

I remember Rush’s reading of a meta-study that found that men are abused by women equally as vice versa—at all levels of violence.

Who has started any shelters for abused men? Anybody?

There is no justification for domestic violence.

Nonsense. There’s no excuse for domestic violence.

They probably don’t help men move, so the field is wide open for someone to step forward and start the business. Beuhler, Beuhler.

Max, please say that you don’t counsel abusive men or abused women. Oh, and welcome to FR.

“A woman trying to flee an abuser is seven times more likely to be killed than any other time in the relationship.”

Especially if her husband feels ‘dishonored’ before Allah.

We’d have less of a need for these services if most of these women comported themselves as a helpmeet as given in Scripture. If you comport yourself in a Christian manner, you will never have relationship problems. It is the issue of the sinful modern world and its influences that cause marital discord.

So what does that look like? When the wife is being beaten within an inch of her life, she’d supposed to praise Jesus for giving her such a good husband who teaches her good, and then runs crawls to the kitchen to make him a sandwich?

I’d like to see a seven-man tactical team show up and remove these battered women right in front of the big, strong he-man and pray he does something stupid.

OMG! How about MEN loving their wives - as given in Scripture - as Christ loves His bride, the church? If MEN would comport themselves in a Christian manner, there would never be relationship problems.

My dad, a pastor, dealt with members’ domestic issues for over 50 years. Ninety percent of the time, the husband was the problem. They were batterers, drinkers, bullies, didn’t provide for the family, adulterers; you name it. Often, one man was all of those things. You’d see (still do) women attending church without their husbands ALL the time, but almost never see the men in church alone.

Most wives would love to be a helpmeet, but in order for a Christian marriage to work out, both parties must do their parts according to Scripture. Men don’t get to tell their wives to “be submissive” unless they’re being a Biblical husband.

Tell that to the woman who married a violent sociopath... or married a man who later became an alcoholic (say, due to dealing with the death of a child, etc).

Blanket statements like yours show an utter lack of cognitive ability.
