The Chiappa AK-9 (or PAK-9) 9mm AK-based pistol is not a new announcement, but at $425 MSRP on the market, it certainly deserves a look at.
One of the AK-9's biggest selling points, besides the price, is the optional magazine well adapter that allows the use of Glock 17/19/26 mags. The adapter is sold through online retailers for about $30.
Although the pistol itself is being imported into the U.S, by Chiappa, the gun itself is reported to be made by the Cugir Arms Factory in Romania. Cugir, who also manufactures the popular semiautomatic AKM WASR rifle, falls under the state-owned ROMARMS defense company headquartered in Bucharest, Romania.
Some initial internet reviews complained of failures to feed, but like anything in this world, seeing is believing or just take it for a spin first hand. See the video review on Chiappa AK-9 here.
When I hear “Chiappa”, I think “Rhino”.
Their products look like they came from video games.
Have you ever thought of getting some writers who are fluent in English?
How is this NOT a Short Barreled Rifle?
My first thought as well.
No, their products are put into video games.
Because that is not a stock, that is a stabilizing arm brace. Apparently this video was shot during the period when the ATF warned that shouldering a stabilizing arm brace constituted a 'redesign' of the part and would result in an SBR. Note that the shooter in the video has a cheek weld but the brace does not touch his shoulder.
The ATF has since rescinded that opinion letter.
With the "stabilizing brace" answer already provided, a second question is why with a Republican President and GOP control of Congress are we still beholden to NFA rules?
C'mon Pubbies! Throw us gun-owners a bone already! We sent you to Washington! Repeal this crap!!!
I really want a Rhino.
That is an interesting pistol. The ability to use Glock magazines is great and it kind of reminds me of the Kel-Tec Sub 2000 carbines.
I hope Gun Tests does a comprehensive review of this.
9mm is making that thing jump around more than my 7.62x39 Ak. What TF is up with that.
I think I’ll keep my Hi-Power.
No kidding. I shot a buddy's Scorpion pistol in 9mm in a very similar configuration to the pistol in this video. The Scorpion didn't jump at all.
Looks like Cosmo Kramer.
I honestly question the wisdom of things like this. What is the practicality of this firearm? You can’t conceal it and it might as well be a full length barreled rifle. And this will make the “hybrid” connection to terminology being used to regulate Assault Rifles. They will now impose new regulations on “Assault Pistols” which will in the end include all semi-auto PISTOLS. The keywords Assault+Pistol could enter some very negative territory when they start addressing and controlling these legally. And they will...
Beauty is only skin deep but the ugly of that car goes all the way down to the frame.
I’m serious, the Rhino is ugly but I hear it really tames the 357 magnum.
I like that .357 bite. You know you have some power there. .38 spc will tame it for the little lady.
