Subtitle: Cue up Pajama Boy. The great crimes of the Left begin in the public school students earliest years, when they work to snuff out of Love of Country.
On July 4th I watched a clip from Democracy Now, a progressive TV news show hosted by Pacificas Amy Goodman. While I didnt expect to watch stirring renditions from our Founding Era, I was taken aback by a segment devoted to the Leftist historian and author Howard Zinn. In A Peoples History of the United States (1980), which is required reading in many high schools and universities, students are pummeled with the propaganda that American history is little more than one of exploitation. An adult inculcated with Zinns nostrums is not only not likely to consider fighting to save his nation, he is likely unfit to participate in a society that is, in his opinion, oppressive. Aside from treason, there is perhaps no greater crime in a republic than to indoctrinate this rubbish into school children.
How can adults, and those in high positions in education and government believe and teach diversity is our strength, and all things are relative? They believe patriotism and love of country are dangerous emotions that must be eradicated from the start of a childs education.
The right defense against false sentiments is to inculcate just sentiments. C.S. Lewis, in The Abolition of Man (1944) wrote that until modern times, all teachers and nearly all men believed the universe to be such that certain emotional reactions on our part could be either congruous or incongruous to the universe, and believed, in fact, that objects and ideas did not merely receive, but could justly merit our approval or disapproval, our reverence or our contempt.
Love of self, family, country, and . . .

Good ol’ Howie Zinn.
He’s been a major cause of the development of the current cultural attitude regarding our country and diminished patriotism.

Bump for a good blog.
Thanks for posting.
I burned mine. It gave off a pretty light.
Every Christmas, my mother in law would scour the sale racks of bookstores for me, looking for books I might like that she could use as stocking stuffers.
She knew I was a history buff, so she kept on the lookout for those.
One Christmas, I opened a present to find “A People’s History of The United States”. I was enthusiastic, as I almost always am for any history related item. (I had no idea who Howard Zinn was)
With history books I am browsing to see if it is something I like, I like to open the book randomly at various pages and read a paragraph or so.
With “A People’s History”, the first paragraph I read caused me to say to myself “Huh?”
So I randomly opened another page, and that one made me think “What?”
On the third try, I knew there was something amiss, so I went to the very front and began reading from the beginning. After a page, I walked out to the garage and deposited the book in the trash can. I had never read a book like THAT before, and was horrified to learn it was being used as a school textbook in many places!
Now, my mother-in-law was a major lib, be we both came to an unspoken agreement early on (after a few sparring matches) that we would avoid the subject, though she wasn’t beyond giving me a few subtle jabs and digs over the years (which I would return volley on)
I thought the choice of this book for me was a jab, but on further reflection, I realized she didn’t mean anything by it, she was just being her normal frugal self at the bookstore.
Hahaha...see my account at #6...:)
I knew when I looked at the title of your post it was a reference to C. S. Lewis and his book, “THE ABOLITION OF MAN.”
Clive Staples Lewis, was quite prophetic with his description of what and who modern man is becoming.
Yes, and I hardly touched on the last chapter, “The Abolition of Man.”
Zinn in public schools is as bad as Mark Levin’s discovery that Carter’s DOJ had been distributing Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals to urban community groups.
Instead of doing its duty, as per the Preamble to our Constitution to ensure domestic tranquility and promote the general welfare, it government generally works toward opposite ends - the destruction of the civil society.
Boy, truer words were never spoken, especially in the last nine years...and I don't think that is an accident by any means. They WANTED to destroy the country and remake it in their image. And they made lots of inroads.
Unfortunately, I often view liberalism as a one way ratchet...once ground is gained by them, they rarely surrender it back.
Common Core is using this idiot in middle schools and high schools. Here is Dade County, FL.

Thanks for correcting my oops.
Good point. It illustrates why I disagree with those who believe our society is beyond redemption.
The vast majority of the harm done to society was done by elites in our ruling (not governing) institutions. Just as no mom ever stood up at a school board meeting to demand the school system take measures to keep her kids ignorant, I’m not aware of any parents whom argued in favor of Common Core.
