“... reporters have bosses, and bosses are demanding unimpeded access to the decision makers. “
Well, so what? The bosses and the press may opine to their hearts’ content, but there is NO Constitutional writ for them to have a seat at the table of officials; especially when they, for the most part, use that access to slant, take out of context and outright falsify coverage. Press briefing are indeed a very new thing in this Republic; and notably the press has been GROSSLY incurious about the last eight years of scandals and outright criminality in the Executive branch.
“... standing up in meaningful ways against the current, dangerous descent into authoritarianism. “
Do you mean like standing up against IRS targeting and NSA targeting and Obama administration unmasking of political foes ?
Will Bunch, a total leftist hack jerk.
Not Democracy, but “Journalistic Democracy”. Kill the latter.
Waaaaaaa!!!! Cry me a f##king river, b!tches. You HAVEN'T done your jobs, you Nazi pukes. You've done the DNC's bidding. More like, as Rush says, you're the masters, and the DNC is wearing your ball gag.
Don’t you know that the x94 administration didn’t have any scandals? </s>
psssst. somebody tell Acosta that OBama held the least amount of press conferences since Reagan.
Tell him to look at Carter\LBJ\JFK.
Then wait for the apology.
Press Conferences by president: Total / average per month:
Obama - 163 / 1.72
George W. Bush - 210 / 2.18
Bill Clinton - 193 / 2.01
George H. W. Bush - 137 2.85
Reagan - 46 / 0.48
Carter- 59 / 1.23
Ford - 40 / 1.36
Nixon - 39 /0.59
Lyndon B. Johnson - 135 /2.18
JFK - 65 /1.91
Eisenhower - 193 /2.01
Truman - 324 / 3.48
Franklin Roosevelt - 1,020/ 7.0
Hoover - 268 / 5.58
Coolidge - 407 / 6.07
This just boils down to them not having pictures of themselves asking questions.
The fact of the matter is that they could honestly report what was said during the briefing and the American people would be well served.
I guess I hadn’t heard of any.
That’s strange. /
Each White House MSM correspondent is motivated by only two things:First, which is the second priority, is to attack Trump with a gotcha question.
Second, and most importantly, is to give their respective networks the footage of their correspondent's question to be the center point of their nightly 22-minute national news broadcast.
By denying the correspondent the question, he upsets their entire nightly broadcast formula. By making them go last, they lose the opportunity to be the first to ask the question and receive a fresh answer. If they go last and ask the question for now the third time, they lose the momentum in Spicer's answer, and they just look petty for not letting a subject go.
CNN was left to discuss how Jim Acosta was snubbed, because they didn't have the footage of Acosta asking a question. The formula would have been this:
Wolf Blitzer introduces a story, and then throws it to Acosta.Acosta sets up the background and then cuts to a clip of him asking his question and then Spicer giving the answer.
When the clip ends they cut back to Acosta who "explains" Spicer's answer.
Blitzer then asks Acosta a "smart" follow-up question and Acosta talks about what comes next from the Trump administration on this topic, or how the Democrats disagree.
Blitzer then wraps up the segment with small-talk like "Thanks, Jim. We'll just have to see what happens tomorrow..."
The formula doesn't work if you're snubbed by the press secretary.
Acosta wanted his clips for the nightly news broadcast, not to cover the White House and report it.

Boo hoo hoo-democracy is dying because of cnns fake news....
I enhanced your post and made it a comment on philly.com:
“Nuremberg rallies? Really?
This is why we hate you, for the lies you tell each day.
Every day, in every way, your lies get deeper and deeper.
We rejoice each and every day that your subscription numbers and advertising revenues shrink.
And finally, we’ll rejoice best of all when we dance on your printing press grave when you cease print publication and become just one more website out of four billion websites that already exist, and your ad revenues are reduced to billionths of a cent per page hit.
It’s what your lies are worth, and it’s what you deserve.”
This asshole wants to use his pen and his camera to remove my democratically-elected President, and he thinks he is the arbiter of freedom?
>>>Since the dawn of the 2016 presidential campaign, reporters have been harassed, threatened and even arrested and charged with felonies for simply doing their jobs<<<
Was there an attached listing?
That’s the formula exactly!
Funny how they let Obama defecate all over them and then bitch when Trump asks that they clean themselves up....
Excellent!
Yes, I remember how Washington, Jefferson, Jackson, Lincoln, TR, Wilson, FDR and JFK all welcomed hard questions from the ink-stained wretches around them.
Thank you. I need to learn how to do that.
