Personal security and survival are key when SHTF. Whether it's social unrest, a string of armed robberies, or a terrorist attack, these weapons are the best weapons to get you and your family out alive.
Was this article conceived by someone who binge watched one too many episodes of the “Walking Dead”?
Too survive “a string of bank roberries”?
Yeah....that’s the solution....walk into your neighborhood bank with a sawed off shotgun, AR-15 and a machete to “protect your family”....
See ya’ in 30 years.....
Trebuchet
Biosafety suit.
After SHTF, turn off fan, and remove safety suit after walking past contamination perimeter.
In a Katrina-like situation, you’ll need a shotgun to defend your home, and maybe an AR-15 or shotgun to secure the road-block at the end of your street along with your neighbors.
You’ll need a pistol to wear to the corner store once the stores reopen, at least until things have returned to normal.
The blogger from Buenos Aires, commenting from experience of life in a city where the economy and order had completely broken down, said that two most necessary things to have was body armor, and a silencer.
30-30 rifle and 38 spec revolver.
Both reload cheap, both can shoot cast lead bullets (best with gas check on 30-30).
Simple, neither long range but certainly deadly.
Add a pump shotgun?
Remington 870 Express w/ rifled barrel
PTR 91 GI
High quality sword
Optional if actual SHTF, but too much trouble otherwise— M67 Frag Grenades, , M18A1 Claymores, M60 LMG
A .22 w/ scope and lots of cheap ammo.
A platoon of Marines.
I’m a big fan of silencers. My silenced .308 still goes “boom”, almost like a .22. The silenced .22 though sounds like something mechanical, the action cycling, not like a gun.
I’ll go with the shotgun for home defense, probably with a red-dot sight just because I’m not good with a shotgun and it is possible to miss even with buckshot. I’ll agree with the AR-15 or even AR-10 with optics for defense at a distance. But my bet is on stealth over firepower for the most part, and on a good knife as the final backup.
“A .22 w/ scope and lots of cheap ammo.”
Hard to beat that choice as a start.

His point was, even if its chaos, you’re still living in a city. If you have to use your weapon, you don’t want to attract a crowd and most especially you don’t want to deal with cops afterward. Because in a SHTF city the cops are not your friend. Of course he was writing from South America, but post Katrina the cops were as much a problem as anything, from things I’ve seen.

.22 air rifle with repair kit. For acquiring small game as there won’t be any deer around after 3 to 5 weeks.
.38, .357 , 44 mag or .45 lc single action revolver. Easily maintained or repaired. No jams.
(straight wall cases can be reloaded forever and they shoot bp very well.)
Manual reloading outfits for above. Lee reloader (whack a mole). They can be carried in your back pocket.
Shotgun.
Rifle. Single action, accurate.
Good tomahawk with hammer on opposite side from blade
Survival knife
SAS survival guide
A number of variations on this such as non cartridge bp revolver.
Reliability is the key, particularly for medium to long term SHTF. The most important skill is getting away from the action unhurt.

The best rifle or shotgun in the world does you no good if you can’t carry enough ammo to feed it for a while. How much does 1000 rounds of .22LR weigh compared to 1000 rounds of anything else?
The answer is very situational.
Are you in fortress mode at home?
Are you hiking away from a population center.
Driving?
If you’re in a single family home, I recommend staying there, as it’s nearly impossible to take everything you’ll need for any length of time.
Always a good pump shotgun..... :^)
Go get a .357 revolver, you can fire .38’s but always can switch to .357 when required.... cast bullets for both....
Agree.
AR15, short barrel 12 gauge magnum, .357 magnum revolver. For the perimeter, I like jetted gasoline to spray the enemy then shoot a tracer round.
