Think of it like Uber but for picking up large items. Truxx is a new app that's now in the Tampa Bay area.

Ever buy something at a store or yard sale and realize it won't fit in your car? The Truxx app is designed to bring a truck to you and haul it to your destination.

But, it's also a way for those with a truck or large SUV to make a bit of extra money.

Those needing the service will put the information, like how big the item is, destination, location, into the app.....

Most people have no idea of the real value of vehicle ownership and operating costs. In time, like in the competitive passenger lift market, this will get down to compensation levels which are very marginal. It’s like the kid down our street who delivers pizzas in a Mercedes SUV (his father’s.) That is probably not a net positive venture, unless tips for pizza delivery are much more generous than I can imagine.

For many who are unemployed or underemployed, this might be a possibility to make some money. They may not get rich, but at least they may get income.

And for those needing large items moved (at a more reasonable price than moving companies demand), this could be a real blessing.

So, I really see it as a good idea.

It’s been done in the oil field for many years. It’s called a “hotshot” service. Unlike Uber, the DOT would be all over this.

yeah that’s actually a great idea. I’ve always wanted a double barrel slushee machine for my home, but the ebay shipping is always close to a thousand dollars. Maybe I can realize my dream

There used to be a radio financial guy named Bruce Williams. He often said that if he ever went broke, he’d get a pickup truck and start a business doing anything he could with the truck.

I’ve often thought of that when I’m at Home Depot watching guys try to stuff 2X4’s into a Corvette. (It really happened) I also saw someone at Best Buy strapping a 50” TV to a Miata.

This is a really good idea.

I think Schlepper would be a better name for this app.

Can’t say I have seen any similar to the Corvette being used that way.

I am a firm believer in keeping a truck around. My quad cab Tacoma doesn’t have a large bed. For bigger jobs, I bought a trailer on sale at Lowes.

I have the same Tacoma. Quad cab with 5’ bed. It’s a company car so I can’t really beat it up, nor can I pull a trailer.

But it’s sure nice having a truck, even a small one.

We have an older minivan and are rapidly hitting the empty nest deal. I want to get my wife a new car and can’t decide what. Do we want a small SUV, or a car?

I’m leaning towards a Dodge Charger. Haven’t broached that subject with her yet. We have a utility trailer for towing kayaks etc and have a couple trailer hitch bike racks.

Quad cab is the way to go for me. I carry computers and higher end camera equipment.

The bed stores a few containers of tools and it stays covered and locked.

I am done with buying new vehicles. My project jeeps and blazer are in varying states of completion.

I like the Challenger though.

I rented a Challenger on a business trip. Blast of a car. Too small for us and my wife doesn’t like showy stuff.

I did ask if I could drain our 401K to buy a Dodge Demon.

And got the expected answer.
