The plan is ban communal trash bins. The State is keeping a database on the garbage of each home, NSA style, 4th Amendment be damned.

Garbage in, garbage out.

My town charges for trash by the pound. We buy trash stickers that cost $1.00 for every 25 lbs. I’m pretty liberal with the weight on those.

Curbside recycling is free. I toss whatever I can into the bin. I don’t inspect them for the silly code. I flat out refuse to wash out cans and bottles. Not my problem.

Cardboard, some regular trash etc. goes in the bin, including pizza boxes. Again, I don’t care. I play their stupid game because it doesn’t cost me anything on top of my taxes like the trash stickers do.

I can give a pretty good case against curbside recycling. It’s stupid and nowhere near cost effective, but if they want to play stupid games, I’ll play stupid games.

This is why I pay for all my garbage to be picked up regardless of whether I recycle or not. Every couple of weeks they get the large bag of plastic bottles.

My recycling station will open bags to see if you recycled properly and will fine you.

I just came across this article. I think it gives an even better argument than the first does. It’s a highly reasoned, conservative and even handed treatise on why recycling makes little to no economic sense and how we’ve been lulled through some level of fraud into believing that it’s good, no matter what the cost.

Let me know what you think of it.

Now everyone will have to install cameras to spy on their own garbage.

This illustrates the absurdity of modern life, in a nutshell.

The do-gooder fascist/tyrant is the worst kind of totalitarian. I will force you to conform because it is for your own good.

My sister who got partially drawn into this green, we are stewards of the earth crap argues with me that we should be made to recycle everything even when I show her studies that show it costs more in many cases to do so and does more damage to the environment, using her own logic, still she argues.

Finally I said look if you want to recycle, fly too it, that is your business and your choice, but accord me the same choice. If you can force me to recycle for your green agenda what else can you come up for my own good can you force me to do??? Do I have to drive cars you approve of? Do I have to have a certain number of children to save the earth? Do I have to install solar panels when they are prohibitively costly and I will never recoup my initial outlay? Where does your do-gooder crap end?

We finally stopped talking about it and in the last four years in particular with obama’s fascist behavior she has come around to my point of view about it being my decision but she still recycles which is her choice and I’m good with that.

Her and her husband were in college in the 1990’s and came in one weekend and this was when Clinton wanted to hammer millionaires with an extra tax and they were arguing that anything over a million dollars should be confiscated by the government. Dad just rolled his eyes when they said that and walked out of the kitchen. I thought, well might as well throw gas on this fire and said why? If I earned it what makes you think you have the right to take it? Because you don’t need that much money! Says who, how do you know what I need or don’t need? It’s not YOUR money to take, whether I earned it or inherited it, it is mine. What if I don’t think you need the Honda accord you are driving and take it and demand you drive a Yugo. Oh no, that is my car, but you don’t need an Accord when I think a Yugo is all you need...

Now he is a successful doctor and she a nurse and they just sold a practice for over $50 million dollars and have raised hell about the taxes they had to pay. I reminded them of our conversation and neither will admit to remembering much of it. Needless to say they are big Trump supporters. That first paycheck with taxes removed helps change a lot of minds!

I have one can in my house for garbage.

My daughter asked me once why we don't recycle. I said, "It is not economical for me to waste my time to sort through what I throw away, so that someone else can make a profit off of my work. If they want me to recycle, they need to make it worth my effort."

Amen.

The only and I mean ONLY reason I play along is because it costs me less.

I once suggested to our mayor that they make trash free and charge for recycling. It costs more anyway.

In his satiric novel Moscow 2042, Vladimir Voinovich wrote that true Communism would be achieved when primary matter(food) equaled secondary Matter (feces)

I’ll bet the trash police person is the same short dumpy ethnic woman in a blue uniform and carrying a tape measure, who send me a $150 ticket for my lawn having grass over 12” high (the grass was 4 inches, but 25 or 30 dandelions shot up to 14” after a heavy overnight rain.)

Many years ago there was an article in the newspaper that exposed what was actually happening with this Recycle “program”.

They photographed the Recycle collection trucks meeting up with the regular trash trucks and tossing the recyclables into the regular trash trucks.

The “Recycle Bin” is just a way to DOUBLE CHARGE the customer for what a single charge used to cover.

If you can find it, the Penn and Teller Bullsh*t episode on recycling is a classic. It goes into that and a LOT more.

I used to be an avid recycler. I don’t bother any more. Waste of time. (except for aluminum cans, which is why they pay you for them.)

The only thing that has any value as a recyclable is aluminum. To spite your township, hold out all your aluminum, and either recycle it yourself, or give it to someone who will. Let the township deal with the rest.

Season 2 Episode 5 Penn and Teller “Recycling is Bullshit.”
Actually a very well documented presentation. The best documentary on the subject.

Read through both articles, and they do go into detail, especially the second one.

I don’t believe in the stupid ‘zero-waste’ thing it talks about, and I agree that recycling for recycling’s sake is pointless. But, and as the article points out, some materials are worth recycling - especially metals. Landfill space may be cheap, but long term that’s not a good solution. And recycling basic things - paper, metal, glass, plastic is pretty easy for people to do. As it’s economical to do so.

Something I didn’t see anywhere in the article is stuff that doesn’t go in the recycling bin - oils, chemicals, paint, electronics. Most of those are recycled separately, and there are companies that do this, Autozone takes your oil for free, and used computer parts stores generally will accept old electronics. Stuff like this that that article didn’t look at does tilt the equation a bit more towards recycling being a good and economic choice.

And, we did’t get much into the better recycling term - reuse. I’ll save some jars for the workbench, useful for screws and bolts and stuff. Gallon jugs are used for oil changes. Stuff like that.

You’re right for voluntary recycling. Some makes sense. Having to separate and wash your garbage because it makes people feel good makes nearly no sense.

About the only thing that makes sense is aluminum.

Re-using and re-purposing stuff makes sense and saves you money.

I’m glad you enjoyed the articles. I really liked the second one from Cato
