Al Franken becomes latest Democrat to reject running against Trump in 2020

Stuart Saves his Senate Seat

For whatever reason, people in Minnesota really seem happy with their decision to keep Al Franken in Congress. Despite his nebulous messages, boring demeanor, and uniformly terrible speeches on the Senate floor, he trounced his GOP rival in 2014 and remains bafflingly popular. Couple that with the whole “famous comedian” thing and you had what many on the left thought was a recipe for a presidential run.

We’ve been hearing rumors almost since Franken claimed his Senate seat - at least as far back as 2010 - mostly due to the fact that Dems have an incredibly shallow bench. You may recall that back in February, the National Journal was hyping Franken as the left’s possible 2020 savior.

Double negatives - in a headline no less...

They really don’t have anyone who’s just an ordinary normal politician. They need a male in his late 50s, caucasian with a center-left to left track record. Sort of a smarter Joe Biden, but 20 years younger. I honestly don’t think they have one.

I always thought they should run James Webb, but he is way too centrist, and maybe too idiosyncratic for them. They need some governor from the midwest, but who isn’t a total fruit loop.

Gosh darn it....I will volunteer to be the Democrat nominee against him. Just got to convince them to be stupid enough to give the nomination to me, and then I can announce that I am in favor of killing babies for profit! I mean who could possibly vote for someone with that platform?

It’s way too early for such speculation.
Even if they really do plan to run for nomination, who wants to invite the intense media glare onto themselves this early in the game? The only people who might want to splash up such excitement may be those least likely to have enough money or name recognition to present a true threat.

They all know Hillary that is running again. No one wants to be shot in the 3 times in a robbery were nothing was taken so they stay out of the fight.

and every Midwestern governor is a Republican, except for Dayton, who is 70 and is retiring.

Trump only lost Minnesota by 1.5%. If his presidency is successful, hopefully he ca swing Minnesota his way and have coat tails for whoever runs agsinst Franken.

Awwwwwww.

I'd love to see Franken run. Trump would beat him like Franken owed him money. It would be embarrassing to watch....almost.

James Webb was the only real American the Democrats had running for the nomination in 2016, and the Democrats made mincemeat of him almost immediately.

On paper the former Marine should have had a most impressive resume, as recipient of the Navy Cross, Silver Star, two Bronze Stars, and two Purple Hearts. No stolen valor there. He went on to serve as Assistant Secretary of Defense and later Secretary of the Navy. He served in the US Senate for a term of six years, then chose not to seek re-election in 2012.

The Democrats do not realize a gift when it is wrapped for them and handed to them on a golden platter.

I see what you did there. Even I would buy a bumper sticker like that Franken/Stein.

LOL! I like that! You'll need a creative nick for their 'fans' now.

Franken doesn’t have enough votes stashed in the car trunk to pull that off in 2020.

I thought my comment about him not being the giant of the senate but actually the pissant of the senate would scare him off.

Minnesota will never go to a Republican. The corrupt Secretary of State will see to that. Position some strategically abandoned cars with ballots in the trunk in places like Biwabik.
