Congratulations, Mr. Perry. Thanks for the warm memories, Sir.
That was a great summer the year Frontiers came out
Those guys had some talent, and Steve has the voice that makes one’s heart soar.
A well deserved honor.
Steve Perry no longer wanted to tour so the other guys went and got a guy who sounds just like him. I’ve always liked Journey and this is well deserved.
He's known as "The Voice" and he's only #76
Yeah.
Arnel really sounds like him, but is no substitute in any way.
There’ll never be another Steve Perry.
My Wife and I always stop whatever we’re doing to slow dance to, “Faithfully,” when it plays.
Her and I first met when we were 14 years old in 1983.
Arnell sounds very similar.
But only similar.
You go to Youtube vids and there are all types of arguments about Steve vs Arnel.
When I got Revelation, I really liked it. Journey’s back. Not just the singing, but writing and performing.
That said. I’ve been a Journey fan since ‘78, I can instantly tell the 2 apart.
Though I like Arnel’s singing, I just can’t quite place what he lacks compared to Steve.
I try to avoid the “discussions” on Youtube, because everybody seems to be a fanboy of one or the other.
I’ve listened to them both, with a critical ear and an open mind and can’t quite put my finger on the subtle difference between the two.
I love the Escape album
and the Live In Houston dvd
I saw Journey 4 times in the early 80’s.
Went to A LOT of concerts back in the day.
Steve was one of the best, for coming out night after night and giving a near album quality experience.
Often, you go to concerts and you get volume and fan hysteria and a show, but seldom does a band actually sound all that good. Journey actually did.
I remember seeing the movie Heavy Metal, before Open Arms had been released.
Instantly knew they knocked that one CLEAN outta the park.
Steve Perry’s voice and Neal Schon’s guitar were made for each other.
Plus the writing of Perry, Schon and Caine together.

Here’s to the two of you.

Oops, SORRY!!!
Didn’t connect post #7 with post #2
The one thing that made Steve Perry interesting is that he was completely and totally uncool. He was a normal guy, kind of a dork, with a voice that was just stunning.
Because he was awkward, he seemed more human than many of the other front men. I know some people who knew him at the height of his Fame, and he was absolutely one of the nicest people on earth.
Long overdue. Congrats!
You know what is funny, RF? I still hear Journey songs at high school football games and many of the youngsters (college age, high school) love Journey. That being said... Steve Perry was a truly gifted singer. I use the word “was” simply because (from my understanding) he doesn’t sing anymore. I can only imagine that with any sort of age.. hitting THOSE notes become difficult if not impossible. And boy.. could he hit THOSE notes.
Funny thing, they ended up getting a huge new audience of Filipinos because of Arnel.
“I saw Journey 4 times...”
I am so JEALOUS, MM... :)
Ironic- I’ve been listening to sooo much Journey lately...they really had some great songs...i got to see them in 1986 at the Meadowlands..
its to bad Perry was such a high strung/high maintenance character...
