Megan Phelps-Roper, who grew up indoctrinated with hatred in the Westboro Baptist Church, left the church in 2012 after what can only be described as an awakening.
She left the church a while ago, and recently did a TED talk on why she left and how it happened. And its fascinating because, I mean, there are parts of it that sounds like shes just lifting lines from Glenn Beck about how to deal with the world, Co-host Stu Burguiere said Thursday on The Glenn Beck Program.
Interestingly, Phelps-Ropers conversion began in the hateful universe of social media, where she encountered a pattern that repeated during her 144-character conversations on Twitter.
Initially, the people I encountered on the platform were just as hostile as I expected. They were the digital version of the screaming hordes I had been seeing at protests since I was a kid. But in the midst of that digital brawl, a strange pattern developed. Someone would arrive at my profile with the usual rage and scorn. I would respond with a custom mix of Bible versus, pop culture references, and smiley faces. They would be understandably confused and caught off guard. But then a conversation would ensue. And it was civil. Full of genuine curiosity on both sides.
Concerned with the current state of division in the country, Phelps-Roger has identified four steps on how to approach people with different ideas, especially on social media platforms:
1. Dont assume bad intent
2. Ask honest questions
3. Stay calm
4. Make the argument, explain
If you want to make it happen, shes giving you the recipe. And its Martin Luther Kings recipe. Unfortunately, most of our society is siding with Malcolm X. Most of us want the anger and hate and rage. We all want it to stop, but were all being led to believe that nothing will ever change with the other side, Glenn said. Thats a lie, and shes proof positive of that lie.
Anyway, these are good tips.

I never want to have to do anything like that again.
There are less than 50 members in the Westboro church, mostly one extended family.
The media talks as if they are a significant part of christianity
At barest margins of marginal, once it goes off the edges -- it's no longer [even] barely marginal.
Inductive reasoning does have it's pitfalls.
Deliberately poor sampling is assault upon reason itself...
That doesn't matter though, when agenda-drivers, who's most comfortable habits tend toward remote control seek and destroy mission played from the relative safety of organizational self-identity "we are the good guys", and everyone else -- not so much (and/or not at all) need convenient (and powerless) figurative whipping boys to be continually demonized (while bashing them boys) for furtherance of the preferred self-identity narrative.
It's much easier, and more lip-smackingly satisfying to be able to shortcut having to make an actual argument from reason.
Here be dragons. It's why I'm so blue? Or is that colorin' just accumulated old bruises? Could be worse, of course...
But just wow, God is such a stranger to so-o many of us (humans) generally...so it seems, to me. It's like they can only see Him off in the distance (if looking His direction at all) barely recognize Him when they do look, and don't seem to realize they are either sheep, or else goats (if not wolves). Some stupid idiots think they are butterflies.
She’s the daughter of the founder, so that really says something.
The WBC is a calculated get rich via violation of 1A rights lawsuits scheme. Their leader is an attorney with Dem roots.
And the Left in general, going well beyond the media, paints them as if they were a significant part of Christianity, which the clearly are not. And those same Leftists generally refuse to see the evidence of the above, since it destroys their narrative about the WBC somehow representing mainstream Christians in their actions.
Glenn Beck...the insane giving advice on the insane. LOL...that’s rich.
She has to be in the spot light where ever appears. Has she sold book rights, yet.
I want to know who funds that church. All that traveling isn’t cheap. I blew a friend’s mind when I told him Westboro was founded by a Democrat. He looked it up and found I was correct.
Shirley is Megan’s mother.
Granddaughter.

“If I could add a 5th point to my TED talk, itd be:
(5) Take heart. You may not be THE one to change a mind but you can help turn the tide.”
Ya-—a Mormon pretending to be an expert on Christianity.
The ongoing destruction of true Christianity goes on and on....to marginalize the philosophy which created the Age of Reason, Modern Science and the US Constitution-—the most rational, just, equal belief-system in the history of mankind. Christian Worldview has to be eliminated in the masses.
Evil has to be condemned and never promoted in a “just law”. You never glorify evil and dysfunction—esp. to children. Discerning Good and Evil is the element of Wisdom and Truth.
Of course—to descend us into the fascist sodomite hell, where Slavery is Freedom and Boys are Girls, they have to eliminate Natural Law (Common Sense)-—the Laws of Nature and nature’s God— from our “Justice” system and minds of children so Satanism (mormonism where men can be gods) can dictate Good and Evil and ignore Truth (Words of Jesus Christ).
