U. Chicago offers $500 for ‘creative ways’ to fight city’s ‘perception of violence’

The University of Chicago’s admissions office is offering an incentive to its student tour guides: Come up with “a creative way to dispel the negative perception'” that the city is unsafe.

The Chicago Maroon obtained a copy of the email Assistant Director of Admissions Colleen Belak had sent out to the guides. The student who provided the message asked to remain anonymous due to a “confidentiality policy.”

In her email, Belak manages to toss in the name of the president-elect:

“If you’ve paid attention to the national news (or Donald Trump’s tweets) over the last few months, you’ll notice that the city of Chicago is often painted with a broad brush as an ‘unsafe’ or ‘scary’ place to reside,” Belak wrote to the campus tour guide listhost.

U of Chicago had a good reputation but now is getting along on only that. This “change the perception” plea is an indicator of the BS that a university will attempt to change reality. I will not go near that city again and I used to live and work there in the early 80’s, even going to a White Sox night game! Only once though. The hood was just too obvious a danger.

Here are a few ideas to get rid of Chicago’s perception of violence.
1) stop the violence

2) Name the west side “Not Chicago”.

3) Create a reality game. Naked and scared in Chicago. People will watch just to see the naked and forget about the violence.

4) brand it the new Chicago Diet. You can eat what every you want as long as you add a little lead you will lose wait.

I went there, so I know the lay of the land. Just have a 19 year old co-ed spend 24 hours at Garfield El stop. Ideally she should start out at Pierce Hall on 55th, and just keep walking west at about 7PM, past Cottage Grove, and see what happens.

Also, they can take out the emergency call boxes, as they are unneeded now that the city is safe.

Oooh, that’s an easy $500- I’ll email them my address.The word is- DEMOGRAPHICS. When the criminal population/culture dominates, crime is rampant and politicians-unwilling to anger the underclass voters- will choose votes over public safety. The answer is: get the arrest records of EVERYONE together, start going door to door of last known addresses( parole officers have the edge here), search for weapons. Any found with said felons-off they go. Big truck loads of them back to prison, underground mines, shuttered military bases-wherever. Felons are gone, guns are out of circulation- crime drops IMMEDIATELY. Of course they should be prepared for armed confrontations-but door to door, search and arrest is the ONLY way. No criminals-no crime. Easy-peasy. Do they have the guts? Probably not- but that IS the solution and I DO expect that check.

This one is a little out of date, from a more peaceful time. My dad grew up in Chicago. He lived in the Humboldt Park area, which you can't really see in the map because it is covered over by shooting dots, but look for the H and P. If you move down from there and a bit to the left, you will see where the kidnappers did their dirty work. My dad told me once that I would never survive a walk through his old neighborhood.
